A DOMINANT first-quarter display has helped Balranald to a commanding 18-goal win over Woorinen, and third spot on the ladder, at Greenham Park.
Balranald outscored their opponents 17-6 in the opening 15 minutes to blow the game open by quarter-time on their way to a 53-35 win.
While the Tigers fought back after quarter-time, defenders Elli-Jane Pollard and Grace Morton had all the answers, with Woorinen unable to eat into the deficit.
“Our defence were on fire in the first quarter,” Balranald co-coach Jess Parry said.
“Elli (Pollard) and Grace (Morton) played really well together again and are really starting to gel as a defensive combination, while Bree Hodgson drove the ball through the midcourt well too.
“Both Elli and I are really pleased with how we’ve started the season, but we also know our weaknesses and will continue to work hard with the girls to improve on them and hopefully go from strength to strength over the coming weeks.”
Willow Conlan was strong in goals for the Tigers and led the way for her side with 27 goals, while Tessa Demaria, who moved into the midcourt, was also among Woorinen’s better players.
