Bowls Notes January 28

MVPA REPORT

THE State Novice Singles were played at Murray Downs last Sunday, with representatives from Sunraysia Bowls, Northern District and Murray Valley. State pairs from Sunraysia, Northern District, Tyrrell and Murray Valley were also played, with the Murray Valley representatives bowing out in the first round.

Murray Valley were successful in both Novice singles for the second year running. Helen Frame (Racecourse) and Shane Domaille (Racecourse) both scored strong 21 to 10 results, to be crowned the best new players for this season.

The State Mixed Pairs will be played at Moulamein on Sunday, with matches beginning at 9.30am.Lunch is BYO or you can order at the club prior to play. The fixture is:

RACECOURSE

CONGRATULATIONS to Helen Frame and Shane Domaille for winning the Murray Mallee Novice Singles finals. They both beat Mildura representatives and now progress onto the state finals at Mulgrave on Sunday, February 27.

Our Peter and Mary Hooper Australia Day tournament was very well supported, with most local clubs represented. Winners, with three wins and 81 points, were Neil Roberts, Bob McIntosh and Max Parsons. Runners-up with 76 points, were Shane Domaille, Ros Schack and Roy Jones. In third place, with 75 points, were Leigh Kingsbury, Kevin Vivian and Peter Hooper. Resting touchers were won by Helen Frame, Alan Lindsay, Lindsay Ryan, Leigh Kingsbury, Greg Ryan and Neville Graham.

Night bowls will be back on Wednesday night, starting at 7pm.

SWAN HILL

FRIDAY Frolic will be on at 3pm, weather permitting and an extended happy hour, snacks and raffles will be held after bowls.

Last Saturday, Divisions 1 and 2 had a successful day, with Division 1 still in second position on the ladder and Division 3 just missing out by 3 shots against a top team.

Midweek Pennant defeated Murray Downs 2 by 16 shots on Tuesday and is still sitting in second position on the ladder. Keep up the good work Swan Hill – only three more pennant days before the finals.

Bowls practise is on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4.30pm and 5.30pm. All bowlers are welcome to come along and improve their game.

TOOLEYBUC

TOOLEYBUC played Manangatang 1 last Saturday and they proved to be too strong on the day. Aaron Adams’ team was the only winning rink for Tooleybuc, with Manangatang winning by 15 shots overall. Midweek pennant was played at Nyah and the scores were one the difference at the lunch break. Both sides fought hard for the win, however, Nyah won overall, winning both rinks and finishing 7 shots up.

Good luck to John and Tricia Armstrong, who will be playing in the State Mixed Pairs at Moulamein on Sunday.

LAKE BOGA

IN ideal conditions, we had a good roll-up for our Thursday social barefoot bowls night. Winners were Courtney’s Mob – Courtney McAlister, Riley Engley, Matt Elliot, and Matt Taverna. Runners-up were Duds – Ian Vernon, Dudley Knight, Richard and Nola Bruton.

Our next social night is February 12 with Jeanette Young. To help with catering, please put names on the list at the clubhouse.

LAST Saturday saw Division 1 scrape thru in a great battle with Lake Boga, while Division 4 were soundly beaten by a more polished Murray Downs.

Armistead tournament is on Sunday, February 13 and is close to filled, with a good mixture of teams.

Social barefoot bowls is on tonight from 5pm, with a barbecue tea. Roomy Rollers for kids as well.
