Words from the mayor

I THINK what most of us are daring to dream is that this year will be less of a challenge, and kinder to us all (fingers tightly crossed).

That being said, 2022 has likely already challenged most of us, but our municipality is strong, we have made it through the past 22 months and we can get to the other side.

I congratulate each of you for your strength and resilience – we have got this 2022!Australia Day celebrations

WE successfully celebrated Australia Day in various ways throughout our municipality.

I had the pleasure of attending the infamous Manangatang breakfast as the guest speaker.

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight and congratulate our citizen of the year award winner this year, Beryl Lowe.

Beryl has made a significant contribution to our municipality, over many years.

Along with Australia Day celebrations, we had the privilege of formally welcoming a number of new Australian citizens.

I extend my sincere congratulations and a warm welcome to our newest residents.Dare to dream

THIS year we will see two elections, both state and federal.

I look forward to seeing what promises are made and what projects are funded whilst their campaigning is in full swing.

If you have a dream for your town or community or a major project idea, now is the time to contact us at council, your local state and federal representatives, as well as other candidates.

Share your visions, your dreams and your challenges.

After all, we are all elected to represent the people.

You are the people and that gives you the opportunity to influence others, and to make a difference for your community.

I urge you to use this opportunity.CEO recruitment

THE recruitment of a permanent chief executive officer is currently underway.

We have been advised that the process will likely take between three and six months.

In the meantime, we are delighted to have Rosanne Kava, a very experienced local government senior executive, as the acting chief executive.Thoughts to our Tongan families

I WISH to extend my heartfelt thoughts to Tongan families right across our municipality.

The scenes that followed the recent Tsunami are nothing short of horrific, and the lack of communication that followed was heartbreaking.

I urge anyone who still requires assistance to contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) emergency hotline on 1300 555 135.All the best for 2022

WHATEVER 2022 may look like for you, the best any of us can do is take each day as it comes.

I wish you and your family all the very best for a positive and productive year ahead.
