MVPA

MURRAY Valley State Singles events will be played at the Swan Hill Bowls Club on Sunday, November 13, with matches to start at 9.30am.

Men’s fixture, 9.30am: G.Bennett v N.Smith, M.Snel v B.Mansbridge, A.Adams v D.Jonkers, J.Armstrong v G.McIntosh.

Men required for noon matches: R.Wilson v S.Domaille, M.Stephens v K.O’Bree, I.McNair v F.Jacka, C.Power v B.Richardson, K.Power v B.Lehmann.

Winners of previous matches will play in the second round at noon.

Women’s fixture, 9.30am: L.Taylor v M.Evans, J.Wilson v D.Adams.

At noon: T.Armstrong v Winner of Taylor/Evans. T.Furnell v winner of Wilson/Adams.

The Men’s Murray Valley State Pairs semi-final between Mark Snel/Mick Holyoak and Frank Jacka/Brian Mansbridge saw a win for the Racecourse duo.

In the final, Murray Downs’ Buck Lehmann and Ray Halligan were too strong, however, and posted a comfortable win.


MURRAY DOWNS

SOCIAL bowls last week was won by Danny Kelly, Mal Martin and David Carmichael, while the runners-up were Darryl Barry, Graeme Steele and Ray Lambert – well done fellas.

There were several Murray Downs members who played at the Lake Boga Skins Tournament last Sunday, with Matt O’Bree, Doug Fisher and Keith Burrage finishing in third place – well done to you all, great effort.

The A Grade Club Championships started last Friday night. The ladies’ final has already been decided, with Teresa Furnell and Lisa Critten to play against each other at a date to be decided.

The men are up to the second round – good luck to the remaining members in their playoff matches.

Midweek and Saturday pennant has begun with some very good results, keep up the good work everyone.

RACECOURSE

JACKPOT bowls on Wednesday was won by Ernie Russell, Kevin Vivian and Bob McIntosh, with two wins and +16 shots.

In second place, with one win and +3 shots, were Neville Smith, Brian Warren and Neil Williams – the jackpot didn’t go off.

Jack Attack night bowls was won by Lads One, consisting of Scott Treweek, Darcy Treweek and Jye Wilson.

Numbers are slowly increasing, but there is plenty of room for more players on the greens. Newcomers can either enter as a team, or as individuals, with all welcome. Please ring Kylie Gardner on 0428 324 042.

Club singles matches need to be played as soon as possible.

There’s a long way to go so please arrange your matches so we can have a club champion crowned before Christmas. The sheet is on the board for the club mixed pairs.

Our Christmas party will be held on December 10, please put your name up if you are coming as Sharon needs to know numbers for catering purposes.

SWAN HILL

LAST Saturday’s pennant results saw Division 1 defeat Nyah District on Nyah’s greens, winning two of the three rinks.

Division 2 only managed a one rink win against a strong Murray Downs side and were unable to take home the points, while Division 3 put up a brave front facing off against Murray Downs 4, after coming up from Division 4 halfway through the first round.

This Saturday, all three Swan Hill teams play at home – with our bowlers, along with many in the district, hoping the rain stays away.

Tuesday Midweek pennant this week saw Swan Hill Division 2 scrape home for a one-shot win overall against Murray Downs 5, with one rink up and 1 rink down.

Division 1 visited Racecourse 1, sharing a 1 rink win each, with Racecourse taking out the overall win.

Wednesday’s social bowls winners were regular attendees Graeme Clark, Kessada Smith and Fred Burge.

Rain is again forecast for Friday, but if the weather stays fine, Friday Frolic will be on at again at 3pm.

Happy hour and raffles will be on from 4pm regardless of the weather. All are welcome to attend bowls and social activities or just enjoy the friendly atmosphere socialising.

This Sunday, the state singles are being played at our club, so come along and enjoy some good bowling.

Lunches will be available and will include salad rolls, sandwiches and sweets. Please order on arrival.

President Brian and all Swan Hill bowlers extend their sympathies to the Hawkins families at the recent loss of Rex Hawkins, who was a past club member, club champion and very competitive bowler.

It is worth noting that Rex created the design for our Swan Hill Bowls shirts, depicting the Swan Hill bridge and swans.


LAKE BOGA

WINNERS of Wednesday’s social bowls were Alex Jobling, Ted Hyland and Basil McDonald, while the runners-up were John McCormack, Richard Bruton and Lyn Pfieffer.

On duty next week is Nola Bruton.

Next Wednesday is our club meeting, commencing at 7.30pm. All members are invited to come along have their input into the running of the club.

We have Mikayla Smith from Mallee Sports Assembly coming along at 7pm to advise us on the process of applying for grants.

The singles draws are on the board, please arrange to play your matches as soon as possible.

TOOLEYBUC

AT last, there was sunshine at pennant bowls on Saturday and in what were perfect bowling conditions, Tooleybuc recorded a win against Racecourse 4.

There were some close scores throughout the day on all three rinks, but at the end of the game, A.Adams team recorded a draw, I.Hickey’s team went down by 7 shots and M.King’s team won by 12 shots, to record a five-shot win overall to Tooleybuc – well done everyone. Tomorrow, Tooleybuc will play Murray Downs 4 at home.

After a lot of hard work and commitment by many, the Tooleybuc greens are now open for practice and pennant and players are looking forward to playing at home.

Midweek pennant was played at Murray Downs on Tuesday against Murray Downs 3, with all players trying their best, but the Murray Downs team was too strong, comfortably winning by 30 shots overall.

Let’s hope for better results next week when we will travel to Balranald.
