SWAN HILL

WEEKEND pennant at Swan Hill on Saturday saw a very close finish in our Division 1 match against Moulamein, with the game going right down to the last bowl of the afternoon.

Brian Quaife’s rink pulled off a one-shot win over A.Worboyes’ team, while G.Scandolora’s crew fell one shot short against D.Compton.

Moulamein’s K.Evans finished four shots ahead of Swan Hill’s G.Evans, with Moulamein taking home the cream by four shots.

Balranald made their trip to Swan Hill worthwhile, overcoming Swam Hill’s Division 2 side by 28 shots, with Alan Marshman again at the helm of Swan Hill’s best performing rink, defeating A.Boynton 28-21.

Nyah District hosted our Swan Hill fours, with Nyah claiming both rinks and a 15-shot win overall.

Our Division 1 team comes up against last year’s premiership side tomorrow, an always strong contingent from Murray Downs.

Manangatang will visit to play Swan Hill’s Division 2 side, while our Division 4 team have the bye.

In better news, our Swan Hill Bowls midweek pennant players managed to keep their winning streak going on Tuesday.

Division 1 played a close game at Murray Downs against their second side, with D.Millsteed, B.Husson, B.Quaife and L.King finishing 14 shots ahead of C.McCaig’s rink, while T.Furnell’s team overcame J.Husson’s team by five shots, giving Swan Hill an advantage of nine shots overall.

Division 2 also had a good day at Nyah, with R.Fazzalori, R.Poole, S.Tompsett and R.Dorigo defeating T.Watson’s rink by 14 shots, which covered E.Grey’s team’s loss to K.Jenkins, with Swan hill finishing four shots up on the day.

Next Tuesday both teams play at home, with Division 1 hosting Lake Boga and Division 2 playing Balranald.

Friday Frolic is always an enjoyable social afternoon for anyone who would like a short, friendly game of bowls, with everybody welcome and no experience required.

Enter your names by 2.30pm for a 3pm start, and stay and enjoy the friendly atmosphere in the club after the game.

Some dates to remember include our Bowls Christmas party on Saturday, December 16, with all welcome, as well as our president’s evening on Monday, December 18 from 4.30pm, which will be an any-combination two-bowl triples event.

Finally, we will host our New Years Night Tournament on Monday, January 1 from 4.30pm, which will also be an any-combination two-bowl triples event.

LAKE BOGA

THE standout team for Lake Boga in last week’s weekend pennant fixtures was our Division 3 side, who had a plus-15-shot win over Moulamein.

David Condy’s rink won by seven shots, Peter Snell’s rink had a comfortable 11-shot win, while Terry Haw’s rink lost by a narrow margin of three.

Our Division 4 teams had mixed results, with Lake Boga 3 defeating Racecourse by 11 shots, with Robyn Jolley’s rink winning with a comfortable 18 shots.

Lake Boga 4 lost to Manangatang by four shots, with John Pye’s rink winning by a margin of 15, but unable to cover the loss of the other rink.

Our Division 1 team started the days play quietly confident of victory against Murray Downs again. After all three rinks had a disastrous six-eight ends start, they managed to claw their way back with Ken Hamill’s rink having a 12-shot win and Danny Kelly’s rink going down by five, but unfortunately, Peter Philp’s team had a large loss of 21 shots.

Our midweek pennant Division 1 side had a loss to Racecourse of 42 shots, while our Division 2 defeated Racecourse with an eight shot win, with Shirley Swan’s rink winning by five and Jeanie Leach’s rink having a three shot win.

Tooleybuc players arrived to play at Racecourse to face Racecourse 3 and knew it would be a challenge, but with the inclusion of several returning players into our side, Tooleybuc produced two wins and a loss.

T.Armstrong’s rink teamed together well to put up a resounding win of 20 shots, while R.Holland’s team also played well and finished seven shots up, with P.Gardner’s rink close all day, but just going down.

The overall score on the day was Tooleybuc 83 to Racecourse 3 63.

Our midweek pennant was played at Tooleybuc against Murray Downs 3 on Tuesday, with both rinks having a bit of a tussle, with one rink up and the other down, but only one shot the difference overall going into the lunch break.

After lunch, the game continued to be close, but in the end Tooleybuc won with one rink up.

P.Gardner’s team was the winning rink on the day, claiming victory by a comfortable 10 shots, T.Armstrong’s rink battled it out to make the score difference closer in a tighter contest, but weren’t able to take the points for the win, going down by a mere three shots.
