MURRAY DOWNS

Social bowls last week was played in the morning with 14 players taking part.

The winning pair was Peter Furnell and Mal Martin, well done to you both.

The jackpot was not won, so is mounting up to a nice little Christmas bonus.

Members rostered for duty on December 19 are Pam and Neville Martin.

There will be a break over the Christmas period resuming on January 2, 2025.

Members rostered on this day are Noelene Weir and Darryl Barry.

Unfortunately, our Turkey Day to be played on Wednesday was cancelled due to lack of entries.

A reminder that our Christmas Party is on after bowls on Saturday.

This will consist of a two-course meal, and great raffles to be won.

Our Saturday pennant has a break after this Saturday, resuming on January 18, while Tuesday pennant is played next Tuesday and then resuming on January 14, 2025.

RACECOURSE

Congratulations to Alannah Taylor on winning her first Murray Valley State Singles crown on Sunday at Murray Downs.

Alannah defeated Kessada Smith 25/12 in a great display of bowling.

Racecourse players have had a good year in the over 60s events with Bryan Bice, Trevor Wiseman, Mary Hooper and Faye Devereux winning the final of the Mixed Fours played at Swan Hill.

In the over 60 Singles, Norm Smith and Peter Loughran both made the final, which will be played on a date to be fixed.

Wednesday jackpot bowls was won by Glenn McIntosh and Peter Holland, with two wins and +14 shots. In second place, on one win and +15 shots, were Ian Lockhart, Bob McIntosh and Max Renney.

Night bowls wrapped up for this year with a pizza tea before the games.

Winning combination comprised Tim Domaille, John White and Ken Barry.

The ditch-to-ditch competition was won by Rhonda and Maya, and nearest to the spot was won by Jono Wright.

Jojo won the knockout, last man (woman) standing.

Saturday night is the Christmas party, starting at 7pm. Lots of fun and cheer guaranteed.

LAKE BOGA

This Saturday we have early starts for our Pennant games at Tooleybuc, 11.45am Roll up for Div.3, and at Manangatang, 10.45am roll up for Div 4 team 3. This is to allow time for the teams to get back to the club for our Christmas break up. We have good music for the night with Brian Lord from Echuca keeping us entertained. All welcome.

Social bowls winners on Wednesday were Alex Jobling, Janet Hamill, and Basil McDonald. On duty next Wednesday are Ray and Jeanie Leach.

It is good to see the singles are in full swing, but we must keep the matches going as they need to be finished before Christmas.

Our division 4 who had a forfeit by Manangatang, our division 1 played Racecourse 2 which Racecourse 2 by 10 shorts on December 7 On December 10 our division 2 had a forfeit by Balranald.

TOOLEYBUC

The final game of the combined Division 2 and Division 3 pennant was played last Saturday.

Tooleybuc played at home against Moulamein and had a good day on the bowling green despite the slow conditions, winning two rinks and a draw in the third.

Best rink on the day was T. Armstrong’s rink winning by 16 shots, followed by P. Gardner’s rink with a close win by two shots and A. Smith’s rink did well to have a draw.

The final result was Tooleybuc defeating Moulamein 89 to 71.

With the split of the two divisions Tooleybuc are now in Division 3.

Saturday, Tooleybuc will play at home against Lake Boga 2.

A reminder to bowlers that this will be an earlier start of an 11.45 am roll-up.

In the Midweek pennant Tooleybuc travelled to Manangatang. T. Armstrong’s rink had a close contest with the scores being level several times throughout the game but at the end of the game, Tooleybuc won this rink by four shots.

P. Gardner’s rink was also close but, in the end, went down by 10 shots.

The final result was Manangatang defeating Tooleybuc by six shots, 48 to 42.

Next week, Tooleybuc will play at home against Balranald. Tooleybuc would like to congratulate Kessada Smith in her achievement of coming runners-up in the Murray Valley Ladies State Singles.

Kessada played well winning her first match against Trish Armstrong to then play Alannah Taylor (Racecourse) in the final.

Some great bowls were had by both ladies.

We also wish good luck to Dannielle Adams who is representing the Murray Mallee Bowls Region against Wimmera at Wycheproof on Sunday.

Division 2/3 of Saturday pennant splits into Division 2 and Division 3 for the rest of the season, with the top five sides going into Div 2 and the second five into Div 3.

All teams keep their points accrued during the first part of the season.

The Murray Valley State Singles for men and ladies were be played at Murray Downs on Sunday 8th December.

The ladies finished their event, with some excellent bowls played. First time winner, Alannah Taylor (Racecourse), beat team-mate Kylie Gardner in the semifinal, before proving too strong for Kessada Smith (Tooleybuc) in the final.

The men are up to the final, with Josh Thornton (Murray Downs) to play Martin Stephens (Moulamein).
