Murray Downs focus on finals

MURRAY Downs have finished off their home-and-away campaign with a win and now they can fully focus on finals.

Kerang Golf didn’t make it easy, however, as they won two of the three rinks available, but they got smashed on Josh Thornton’s rink.

Murray Downs now face fourth placed side Barham in the finals which will be played at Cohuna Bowls Club this weekend

“We defeated Barham last time at our home green, we will definitely get as close as we can to win the match,” said Murray Downs player Kevin Rowe.

“Cohuna is a new green for many of us, while Barham knows this green as they played their before.

“It’s almost like a second home for Barham.”

For Kerang Golf, their season has come to a finish after having no wins on the board and only managing 26 points, they will go into the winter break, hoping to strengthen and go again for the 2025/26 season.

In Swan Hill, Racecourse just pulled off the victory against Barham, with Racecourse winning two of the three rinks and having 68 shots while Barham had 66 shots, a very close contest between the two sides.

Despite the win, unfortunately it wasn’t enough as they just missed out on their finals chance by five points, their season is now over.

In the Gannawarra Shire, in what is no doubt the biggest upset of the season, Kerang defeated Cohuna Golf in convincing style.

Kerang won on two of the three rinks and having the most shots of 76 compared to Cohuna Golf’s 64 shots.

With this massive upset, Kerang will go into finals with hope now that Cohuna Golf are actually beatable. They will be facing each other in the finals series this weekend.

For Cohuna Golf, they will be looking for answers on what went wrong during the contest, and hope that they won’t lose their momentum for the crucial part of the season.
