RACECOURSE

JACKPOT bowls was played on Wednesday afternoon with 30 players taking part.

The winners were Glenn McIntosh, Fred Burge and Marg Smith, who with two wins and +6 shots won in a three way tiebreaker ahead of runners up Neville Smith, Val Lindsay and Bob McIntosh with one win and +6 shots.

Friday, April 11, is our clubs’ president’s day, mixed fours event, starting at 12.30pm, which will be followed by our presentation night.

If you are intending on coming to presentation night, please put your name on the board by Wednesday, April 9.

Last Saturday and Sunday we held our annual Country Care Sun City Classic, which proved to be a great weekend with 26 teams from all round the state attending, with the feedback on our new synthetic green being very positive.

After seven rounds, the winners were decided on shots up, with two teams winning all seven games.

Barry Brennan, Glenn Dorward and Jim Hogan from the Moama Bowling Club have now won this event for the third time, with their score of 21 points and +86 shots beating Buck Lehmann (Murray Downs), Barry and Darren Ansett from Serpentine, with 21 points and +80 shots.

Finishing in third place, on 18 points and +43 shots, was a team from Birchip which consisted of Kevin Reed, Andrew Lee and Tony Doran.

The highest winning margin in each game was: Game 1 – Isaiah Bettess,

Game 2 – Glenn McIntosh; Game 3 – Rod Wickham; Game 4 – Ray Halligan; Game 5 – Dennis Burdett; Game 6 – Trevor Wiseman; Game 7 – Dennis Higgins.


SWAN HILL

This Friday looks like being weather perfect, for Friday Frolic at the Swan Hill Bowls Club, with a one hour game of 10 end bowls starting at 3pm, with names to be in by 2.30pm for the committee to do the draw.

This is a day when anyone can give bowls a try, with bowls available at the club and all welcome, with a $5 entry fee and every winner receiving a prize.After the game, join in the social activities in the clubhouse, with happy hour drinks from the bar, a light snack and raffle prizes to be won, all while having a friendly chat.

On Friday, March 21, the club held an end of season barbecue, with presentations made to the winners of our club events for the 2024-25 season.

The winners: Ladies club championship winner – Lee Tompsett; Ladies club championship runner up – Judy Husson; Men’s club championship winner – Brian Quaife; Men’s club championship runner up – Anthony Shields; Men’s B grade club championship winner – Robert Shields; Men’s B grade club championship runner up – Stuart Tompsett; 100-up winner – Anthony Shields; 100-up runner up – Robert Shields; Pairs winners – Brian Quaife and Graeme Clark; Pairs runner’s up -Judy Husson and June Sibley.

Note, it was decided this season, that due to shortage of numbers, that the pairs include either mixed or ladies pairs, as well as the 100-up and B grade club championships.

Easter will soon be upon us, which means the Swan Hill Bowls Clubs Easter Carnival will be held, with bowls on Good Friday, April 18, under an any combination three bowl pairs format.

That will be followed on Saturday, April 19, with an any combination two bowl triples format, while Sunday will consist of a rest day.

Monday, April 21, will see us finish with an any combination three bowl triples event, with all events starting at 12.30pm, with entries closing at 10am on the day.

Entry fee is $15 per person and includes afternoon tea, with teams and single entries accepted by contact Bill King on 0428 324 083 or the club on 5032 1772, or alternatively, you can put your entries on the sheet on the noticeboard.

Entry forms are now available at the clubhouse for both our Easter and May carnivals.

The May carnival will commence on Saturday, May 3, and will end on Saturday, May 10.


LAKE BOGA

WINNERS of Wednesday’s social bowls were Marie O’Meara, Nola Bruton and Max Parsons, while the runners up were Alex Jobling, Barb Lewis and Helen Jobling, with ‘Bones’ Smith having a resting toucher.

From this Saturday, our jackpot bowls and Wednesday social bowls will start at 12.30pm, with names to be in by 12pm.

The next general meeting of the bowl’s club will be held next Wednesday, April 9, at 7.30pm.

Please come along and put forward any suggestions to help our club.

Next Monday there will be a working bee, which will start at 8.30am, to do some work on the greens.

We have our two-day Catalina Classic on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, and we will need some workers on both days.
