MURRAY DOWNS

THE State Titles were held in Bendigo recently, where our Murray Downs men’s fours team of Josh Thornton, ‘Buck’ Lehmann, John Caldwell and ‘Shorty’ McCaig played.

It was a very exciting game against Geelong, but unfortunately our men went down by two shots.

Well done to you all on making it to the state titles, a truly fantastic achievement.

Social bowls last week was won by Darryl Barry, Teresa Furnell and Di Angus, while Peter Furnell had the lucky number and took home a handy jackpot amount.

Members rostered for the Thursday, April 17, are Doug Fisher and Neil Brown.

Murray Downs members travelled to Deniliquin last weekend to take part in the Edinburgh Shield.

Well done to all on a very successful weekend, with Murray Downs finishing runner-up in a very close finish.

Our presentation night was held on Wednesday evening at the Swan Hill Club in the Glencoe Room.

A reminder that our Annual General Meeting will take place at Murray Downs on Monday, May 5.


RACECOURSE

JACKPOT bowls was played on Wednesday in perfect conditions, with Norm Smith and Clark Jenkins victorious with two wins and +13 shots.

The runners up, with an enormous score of one win and +26 shots, were David Jonkers and Michael Grace.

This Friday we have our president’s day mixed fours event, starting at 12.30pm, which will be followed by our club’s presentation night and tea, starting at 6.30 pm.

Racecourse have their annual ANZAC Day triples event, sponsored by the RSL Club.

Players are asked to be there by 12.30pm for an Anzac service, with bowls to start at 1pm.


SWAN HILL

LAST Friday, a visitor from Tura Heads, NSW, enjoyed a game of bowls at our Friday Frolic social afternoon.

Friday Frolic will be on for all again this Friday for anyone who would like to enjoy a game of bowls in the glorious autumn weather.

Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of your experience, with it being an ideal time to give bowls a try, with just a $5 entry fee and names to be in by 2.30pm, with everyone ready for a 3pm start.

Social activities in the clubhouse are always enjoyed after the game.

Next Friday, April 18, is Good Friday and our Easter Carnival begins, so there will be no Friday Frolic next week.

Our Easter Carnival schedule is as follows –

Good Friday, April 18 – any combination, three bowl pairs.

Saturday, April 19 – any combination, two bowl triples.

Monday, April 21 – any combination, three bowl triples.

All events commence at 12.30pm, with entries closing at 10am on the day of play, with an entry fee of $15 per person, which includes afternoon tea.

The proceeds of the raffle on Good Friday will go to the Royal Children’s Hospital appeal.

Teams and single entries are accepted, so please contact Bill King on 0428 324 083 or ring the club on 5032 1772 to enter, or alternatively pick up an entry form from the club and return to Bill King.

Otherwise, you can also enter on the sheet on the notice board.

Our May/Autumn Carnival is also on the horizon, which will begin on Saturday, May 3, with a variety of bowls every day, until Saturday, May 10.
