RACECOURSE

WE held our president’s day bowls last Friday, with our Elsteel & Roofing mixed fours, with visitors from Mornington, Kerang Golf, Nyah District, Lake Boga, Swan Hill, Murray Downs and Tooleybuc.

After three games, the winners were decided via a countback with Peter Loughran, Lyndal Taylor, John Ford and Marg Smith successful.

Noel Hender, Alec Jobling, Max Parsons (Lake Boga) and Liz Renney were the runners up, with Norm Smith, Carol Smith, Rod Wardle and Alan Lindsay finishing third.

The club’s presentation night followed a delicious tea, with the major winner for the night our youngest member Alannah Taylor, winning her first club singles title, as well as the club’s 100 up, defeating Lyndal Taylor in both events.

Alannah also won the Murray Mallee State singles title and represented our club in Bendigo at the State Championships, winning her first match and just missing out 24 to 25 in the second round. Alannah also paired up with Ron Wolfe in the mixed pairs, but lost the final to Glenn McIntosh and Fay Devereux.

Other winners were Mick Holyoak, who was club champion for the second time, with Norm Smith the runner up.

The back-to-back winner in the 100 up was Graeme Bennett, with Glenn McIntosh finishing as the runner up, while the men’s pairs winners were Trevor Wiseman and Arthur Threadgold ahead of Ron Wolfe and Roy Jones.

The club triples was won by Glenn McIntosh, Shane Domaille and Liz Renney, with Graeme Bennett, Tony Evans and Marg Smith finishing as runners up.

The ladies pairs winners were Mary Hooper and Kaye Roberts, with Diane Millsteed and Liz Renney runners up.

Our next tournament will be on Anzac Day with a triples event, with players to be there by 12.30pm for an Anzac service, with bowls to start at 1pm.


SWAN HILL

IT is time to hop into action and get your entries in for the Swan Hill Bowls Club’s Easter carnival.

The carnival is sponsored by the Swan Hill RSL Club, with entries via Bill King on 0428 324 083 for details to place your team or single entries, or ring the bowls club phone number on 5032 1772.

The format is as follows –

Good Friday, April 18 – any combination three bowl pairs.

Easter Saturday, April 19 – any combination two bowl triples.

Easter Sunday, April 20 – rest day.

Easter Monday, April 21 – any combination three bowl triples.

All three events will start at 12.30pm, with entries closing each day at 10am.

Entry is $15 per person, which includes afternoon tea, with first, second and third prizes daily.

The Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal will also be the beneficiary of the raffle on Good Friday.

Friday Frolic will not be on due to the Easter carnival, but will certainly return to its normal time slot of 3pm, next Friday, April 25, which is Anzac Day.

Swan Hill Bowls Club’s May/Autumn Carnival is just around the corner following Easter and will start on Saturday, May 3, with a variety of events for both men and ladies each day. It will finish on Saturday, May 10, with an any combination fours event.

Swan Hill bowlers have been supporting tournaments at their sister clubs and further afield.


NYAH DISTRICT

THE mixed pairs finals are going to played by Thama Watson and Mat Craig, Christy Farr and Phil Grey, while the men’s pairs are well under way.

The clubs presentation night is on Friday, May 2, with names to be in before the Friday, April 25, for catering, with presentation night to be held at the clubhouse from 6.30pm, ready for a 7pm start.

Monday, May 5, will see our AGM held at 7pm at the clubhouse.

The next three Friday nights will see the club not having our family bowls events, with Easter, Anzac Day and our presentation night.

Our three bowls pairs event on Sunday, April 20, sees all rinks now full.

On Saturday, April 26, we are taking part in the Nyah West & District Heritage Weekend.

We will be hosting social bowls on the Saturday of heritage weekend.
