RACECOURSE

WE held our president’s day bowls last Friday, with our Elsteel & Roofing mixed fours, with visitors from Mornington, Kerang Golf, Nyah District, Lake Boga, Swan Hill, Murray Downs and Tooleybuc.

After three games, the winners were decided via a countback with Peter Loughran, Lyndal Taylor, John Ford and Marg Smith successful.

Noel Hender, Alec Jobling, Max Parsons (Lake Boga) and Liz Renney were the runners up, with Norm Smith, Carol Smith, Rod Wardle and Alan Lindsay finishing third.

The club’s presentation night followed a delicious tea, with the major winner for the night our youngest member Alannah Taylor, winning her first club singles title, as well as the club’s 100 up, defeating Lyndal Taylor in both events.

Alannah also won the Murray Mallee State singles title and represented our club in Bendigo at the State Championships, winning her first match and just missing out 24 to 25 in the second round. Alannah also paired up with Ron Wolfe in the mixed pairs, but lost the final to Glenn McIntosh and Fay Devereux.

Other winners were Mick Holyoak, who was club champion for the second time, with Norm Smith the runner up.

The back-to-back winner in the 100 up was Graeme Bennett, with Glenn McIntosh finishing as the runner up, while the men’s pairs winners were Trevor Wiseman and Arthur Threadgold ahead of Ron Wolfe and Roy Jones.

The club triples was won by Glenn McIntosh, Shane Domaille and Liz Renney, with Graeme Bennett, Tony Evans and Marg Smith finishing as runners up.

The ladies pairs winners were Mary Hooper and Kaye Roberts, with Diane Millsteed and Liz Renney runners up.

Our next tournament will be on Anzac Day with a triples event, with players to be there by 12.30pm for an Anzac service, with bowls to start at 1pm.
