Titan Shutters selected for major Boroondara City Council projects

Melbourne’s Titan Shutters has been selected as a preferred partner by Boroondara City Council with a variety of projects already completed in the shire’s suburb of Kew.

Encompassing several other sought-after suburbs including, Ashburton, Balwyn, Hawthorn, Camberwell and more, this municipality is home to a vibrant community and a wealth of parks and sporting facilities.

With Boroondara Council responsible for maintaining these many shared spaces and ensuring their security, Titan Shutters have been brought on board to assist with improving this community infrastructure.

Boroondara City Council Planning & Selection

Actively involving its residents in the consultation process regarding local development and upgrades, Boroondara Council has a clear community development plan and multiple facility upgrades in the works.

In line with their commitment to maintaining the security of community infrastructure, the council identified a key area of importance – the replacement of old and broken roller shutters.

With a competitive tender process in place for all outsourced trades, products and services, selection as a provider for these is based on several criteria including quality and proven capability.

As Director of Titan Shutters, David Spottiswood attests to:

‘Being selected to support the improvement of public facilities in the Boroondara council area is something we are very proud to be a part of.

As a local business that manufactures our shutters right here in Melbourne, we are passionate about our local community and economy.

Working with the Boroondara Council allows us to contribute positively to both of these, so we are so pleased to be working with them and we have a strong and genuine interest in continuing to do so in the future.’

Completed Projects In The Community

Following their selection, Titan Shutters immediately commenced work on two major projects in the suburb of Kew, Victoria.

Security Roller Shutters For J.D. Ryan Pavilion in Hays Paddock, Kew, Victoria

This project first involved the removal of old, damaged roller shutters on the sports pavilion’s windows and doors. Ten commercial-grade Titan AluShield roller shutters in the colour Monument were then fitted in their place.

As the windows and doors butted up to the underside of the eave, the installation of standard shutter pelmets would have prevented normal operation of those openings. As such, Titan had to position the shutter pelmet inside of the eave structure. Custom hatches were designed and manufactured to suit. The result is a shutter pelmet that is perfectly concealed within the eaves and that doesn't compromise future access for maintenance or repairs.

Given the shutters were to be installed on a public facility, Titan also installed obstacle detection motors to minimise the risk of damage from user error and also to protect community members using these facilities.

Security Roller Shutters For Boroondara Netball Centre, Balwyn North, Victoria

Just as with J.D. Ryan Pavilion, the Boroondara Netball Centre had several old and broken roller shutters in need of replacement. Managed by the Boroondara Netball Association and incredibly valued by the local sporting community, this facility is in near constant use and requires a reliable and safe shutter system.

As explained by Titan Shutters, this meant removing and disposing of all existing shutters and replacing them with Titan AluShield, commercial-grade shutters also in the colour Monument.

Once again focused on safety given their installation in a publicly used space, obstacle detection motors and safety devices were included as part of the upgraded system. Effectively working to reduce the risk of accident or injury, these inclusions also aid in protecting the shutters from damage due to user error.

What’s Next For Titan Shutters?

Also engaged with other nearby councils Whittlesea and Banyule, Titan Shutters is dedicated to continuing to make a positive impact across the wider Melbourne area.

Working closely with these councils, Titan is ensuring that public facilities such as these community sports pavilions can be enjoyed with greater ease and improved safety well into the future.

Emphasising this point, Spottiswood adds:

‘It really is a wonderful sight to see these projects being completed and know that we’re contributing to the ongoing protection, safety and usability of these community spaces.

That these upgrades incorporate Titan Shutters’ leading technology, are manufactured in Australia to the highest standards, and are installed diligently by local experts is something we’re immensely proud of.’

Benefiting the community by protecting these buildings from deterioration and criminal damage, Titan’s selection for these projects is a welcome collaboration and one that stands to serve the residents of Boroondara City Council for many years to come.
