Book launch drives inspiration

LOCAL mental health social worker and author Liz McDonald launched her debut novel The Lesser Evil on Saturday.

She was joined by local artists and community members at the Art & Soul Art Gallery on Chapman Street.

The launch incorporated an exhibition of work from local artists who had offered to help Ms McDonald with the novel’s cover art.

Inspired by a vivid nightmare, The Lesser Evil is set in a fictional town in the United States and follows two teenage girls who are isolated from the modern world.

Ms McDonald said she was surprised and humbled by how many people showed up to the launch.

“Almost 50 books were sold on the night which is great,” she said.

“Seeing people come out and support both me and the local artists was fantastic.

“There were people from all walks of life with people coming from Balranald and Sea Lake just for the launch.”

Art & Soul co-owner Susi Baumgartner said the book launch and art exhibition was a great opportunity for young artists to display their works and get exposure.

“This was the first time some of them had their works on display,” she said.

“The launch has opened up inspiration for a lot of people who may be hibernating with their creative ideas.”
