Social bowls again
WE had a lot of fun on the greens last week with 16 bowlers turning up and one spare.
You are on our list now Rick, so you will be told the right time instead of listening to me, sorry about that.
There may be a Grand Final happening this weekend, but that’s not until the evening, so there is plenty of time for bowls beforehand.
Have you name in by 12pm for a 1pm start, we have plenty of spare bowls to lend you if you do not own any.
For more information, please ring Kerryn on 0407800111. Or just turn up. You will be made most welcome.Lead for fingerlings
OUR Moulamein Men’s Shed had a very successful day on Sunday with their battery pick up.
They estimate they may have picked up over 10 tonnes of batteries for the day, with $1,000 donated from our Moulamein Footy Netball Club/Swan Hill Truck Service Fishing Competition.
This will really make a difference to our local rivers, creeks and town lake as our Men’s Shed will scatter these fish around a bit.
If you have a battery or two and you would like to be involve, just drop your old batteries at the gate of our Moulamein Men’s Shed.
Or ring Sutto on 0447541200, or Allan on 0422907090 and they will come and pick them up. No permit requiredUS privileged few in the border bubble can now cross the river for any reason so long as you stay in the bubble.
It is good to see the Edward River Council back in our bubble.
From what I can find out, all you need is your licence again to get across the mighty Murray River.
Let’s hope it stays that way.
It is an ever-changing world in which we live, by the time you read this, I should be fully vaccinated.
Could everyone please try to follow me so we can get back to almost normal. But fire permits required as of October 1 you will need a fire permit if you need to burn off.
Once you get your permit off your district permit officer, you can let the ‘white shirts’ know of your burn off online at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fire-permits/burn-notifications
Masks make me blind and deaf
We are all trying to get used to our new world where masks have to be worn, and us with glasses know that if you don’t put it on right your glasses fog up and you go blind.
Us old buggers with hearing aids also know if you’re not careful the aid gets flicked off your ear and could end up anywhere.
But Saturday morning I ducked into town to get the mail and paper, took my mask off when back in the ute, and an hour or so later went to have a shower before bowls and no hearing aid in my left ear.
I checked everywhere – it’s amazing what looks like a hearing aid on a farm when you drive around looking for something so small.
Haven’t given up, and I can’t track them on my phone since they’ve been fixed, they won’t reconnect.
Because of our friend COVID I don’t go to Swan Hill anymore, so they never got reconnected.
Bugger – please talk to my right ear. Big river comingNot flood big, but bigger than a month ago, check your pumps, your boat and anything else that you may have down on the water line.
At the time of writing our Edward is running at just over 3000 megs, and below Stevens Weir it is just over 9000, and over 12,000 at Deniliquin and rising.
The Billabong should not rise until after this flush from the Edward has passed.
I see the sand bagging equipment has arrived back into our council depot so I can only assume we are heading towards a flood watch situation.
No panic yet, but one decent fall in our catchment with the weirs being over 90 per cent, we may be able to sell our houses with ‘river views’.Gallery open again
Our Gallery Girls did open up again last week, so come in on Thursday or Friday for coffee and cake from 10am to 4pm and try the best coffee and cake in the district while checking out some local produce, craft and art.
