MURRAY River Council’s (MRC) brand new versatile mobile library and service centre is hitting the road this week.
Set to visit Murray Downs, Tooleybuc and Wakool, the vehicle is packed with plenty of books and resources.
It will visit schools and the communities on a fortnightly basis from January 4, but it will only visit the main street locations during school holiday periods.
Mayor Chris Bilkey said the new vehicle would extend the reach of council and library services.
“The new mobile centre will enable our library and customer service team to venture into areas of the council that don’t have a permanent council facility,” Cr Bilkey said.
“It’s a really exciting way to make regular contact with our communities and will help support the demand for council information, public computer access and of course library services.”
To extend access to library collections, council will remain linked to the Swan Hill Regional Library Service which means members can access additional services and initiatives online, reserve and request any title, and access a large collection of e-resources.
“Library membership is free, so we hope even more members of our community will take it up now that we are heading their way,” Cr Bilkey said.
Residents will be able to board the new mobile library to access council services, too, including payment of rates and water, forms and applications, and accessing information. No cash will be accepted for payments.
Inquiries for Service NSW can also be answered along with collection of specific forms and brochures.
Services and activities included in the mobile library include book lending services, large print and talking books will also be available, photocopying and printing, wi-fi and technology access, community information portal, council services hub and access to government online portals, such as Service NSW, Medicare and Centrelink.
“Current community demand for local programs, information, resources and technology access points are what our communities have been asking for, so we are excited about what this new library service will offer,” Cr Bilkey said.
“This is an exciting new chapter for our services and we can’t wait to hit the road.”
