Seedlings spark interest

Children taking part in a school holiday program at George Lay Park, Swan Hill on Tuesday can look forward to harvesting the fruits of their activities in the near future.

Many children, assisted by parents, planted seeds ensuring a future harvest and greater understanding of where some foods come from.

The Family Edible Garden day was organised by Swan Hill District Health in conjunction with many other local groups.

A highlight of the day was a special story time by the Swan Hill Regional Library.

Health promotions officer with Swan Hill District Health Bronte Rayner said the morning of activities was focused on children and families having fun in the outdoors with an edible garden theme.

Swan Hill Christian School organised planting character pots, while Small Talk Playgroups provided bubble wands.

Rec Link ran a popular scavenger hunts with a special garden theme, as well as a a variety of games including Connect 4, beanbag toss and skittles. Other activities including art work on garden themed stakes and drink bottles were also very popular.

Ms Rayner said the main theme of the morning was children understanding where food comes from, nurturing the seedlings and finding a love for edible gardens.
