Community pulls the right Strings

LAKE Tyrrell provided the perfect backdrop for a fundraising Valentine’s Day event which helped raise funds for vital medical equipment.

In a heartwarming display of community spirit the inaugural Strings and Sunset event was a huge success, attracting a sell-out crowd.

Organised by the Foundation of Mallee Track, the event aimed to raise the profile of the locally registered charity which was founded in 2021.

Chair of the foundation Phil Down said the proactive committee was dedicated to raising funds for specific projects which assisted Mallee Track Health and Community Service in providing additional services and medical equipment for rural communities.

While government funding provides essentials for the local health service, the funds raised by the foundation help fulfill a need where there’s a shortfall in government funding.

“The foundation helps ensure a standard of care which we all expect and deserve,” Mr Down said.

Since launching, the foundation has already supported Mallee communities by purchasing two new defibrillator/monitors that have been installed at Sea Lake and Ouyen Urgent Care Centres.

The foundation has also committed to a five-year scholarship program to help train and retain staff within rural, isolated communities.

In addition to these projects, the foundation is actively working towards an ambitious $200,000 fundraising target as part of its commitment to support Project X-Ray Vision, which will provide X-ray equipment and services at Sea Lake and Ouyen.

MTHCS chief executive Frances Peart said both campuses would benefit from having an X-ray facility onsite, significantly improving the quality of care for patients, and ensuring a faster and more accurate diagnosis.

“This is such an important addition to MTHCS services and helps us to fulfill our objective of bringing care closer to home for the Mallee community we serve,” Ms Peart said.

Following the success of the foundation’s unique Valentine’s Day event, that fundraising target is now within sight thanks to the unwavering support of the local community and businesses which ensured its success.

“Mallee people traditionally don’t go all out for Valentine’s Day, but this theme tied in very well,” Mr Down said.

On behalf of the foundation, he expressed his gratitude and highlighted the community’s unwavering dedication to enhancing local healthcare services.

“The Valentine’s Day event was not only a social night of celebration and enjoyment but also a powerful reminder of the impact that a united community can have,” Mr Down said.
