Lake Boga ski club hits the water

LAKE Boga Water Ski Club made the most of the fine weather with a skiing coaching clinic on March 15 and 16.

The club welcomed Ski Bundalong coach Brad Mitchell to teach slalom skiing, which involves a buoy obstacle course on the water.

Lake Boga Water Ski Club president Paul Martin said the clinic was part of the club’s goal to encourage the community to get on the water.

“We’re always encouraging families and kids in the area to participate and start to learn skiing and different types of skiing, from beginners right through to advanced in all the different disciplines,” he said.

“Brad from Bundalong is a very experienced coach who does a lot of work with children in all levels of skiing, so we were very lucky to have a lot of skiers in our network that will help the development of younger or less experienced skiers who want to get involved.

“These clinics also get people down and active around the club, and utilising the facilities we have available at the lake.”

Beginners and novices were taken out on the water with club vice president Toby Gilmour, a qualified coach, to learn the basics of skiing.

“Everyone was really pleased with how the day went,” Mr Martin said.

“It was about having a good time without the pressure on what they achieved but on working on their personal goals because everyone was at different levels.

“The weekend was run really professionally, everyone had their time slots and they knew what the expectations were.”

The club is wrapping up the season with their Last Lap barbecue lunch at Lake Boga on Sunday April 13.

“We want to thank the sponsors who came on board in the last 12 months and have contributed a lot to the club and made a huge difference to the club’s operation,” Mr Martin said.

“We’re inviting them as well as our members and the rest of our community for a social gathering to get together and have some fun.”
