Will makes the fundraising cut

ON a typical last day of school, it doesn’t take much to get students excited.

At St Mary’s Primary School however, students were bouncing off the walls with excitement for crazy hair day.

The school community came together in zany, colourful solidarity with cherished teacher Gabi Boers – who was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2024.

Mrs Boers returned to the school for the special day, which saw $800 raised for the Good Friday Appeal and the World’s Greatest Shave.

The morning began with year 6 student Will Parkinson having his head shaved in front of a cheering schoolmates to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Mrs Boers was Will’s teacher last year.

Leukemia is a form of blood cancer which takes 17 Australian lives each day.

“The entire school community got behind Mrs Boers, with students and staff showing their support and making it a truly memorable way to finish off our term,” St Mary’s Primary School principal Kate Quin said.
