Swan Hill up for top tourism nod

SWAN Hill locals have been urged to vote for their hometown, with the rural city named a finalist in the Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards.

The awards showcase the value of tourism to the towns and communities across Victoria.

They are presented in three categories: Top Tourism Town (those with a population of over 5000 people), Top Small Tourism Town (population between 1500-5000) and Top Tiny Tourism Town (population below 1500).

Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Cr Stuart King said the recognition highlights the collective commitment of our community to providing welcoming and memorable experiences for visitors, showcasing pride and dedication to our town.

“Every interaction, big or small, contributes to our visitors’ experience, and it’s our entire community that makes Swan Hill such a special place,” he said.

“I couldn’t be prouder.”

The awards aim to recognise and reward towns that demonstrate a strong commitment to tourism and to increasing visitation to the destination, that offer an excellent visitor experience, and exhibit collaboration with tourism operators, local businesses and the community to make their town the best destination it can be.

The nomination was submitted by the council in collaboration with Swan Hill Incorporated.

“The next step is up to you – we need your support,” Cr King said.

“The winner is decided by the people’s vote, so let’s get behind our community and vote for Swan Hill.”

The submission said the Swan Hill region was a vibrant and welcoming destination where the river runs through every experience.

“Known as the Heart of the Murray, this region invites visitors to explore its rich history, stunning landscapes, and thriving food and wine scene,” it said.

“With friendly locals, unforgettable attractions like the Pioneer Settlement, and a calendar full of events, the Swan Hill region captures the true spirit of country Victoria with every visit.

“From cruising the river to wandering art trails or enjoying award-winning produce, there’s something to discover.”

The “best of Swan Hill” itinerary is a curated three-night, four-day experience designed to showcase the very best of the region.

The awards are presented by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council

The public voting is open and closes at 5pm on Friday, June 27.
