MANANGATANG might be a small dot on the map, but it is full of big opportunities and experiences available at Manangatang P12 College.
Aside from small class sizes and individualised academic programs, the college offers an extensive extracurricular program. Term 3 has been jam-packed with extra learning experiences for students.
A group of secondary students has just returned from Buchan where they completed a seven-day Outward Bound Camp.
It pushed students out of their comfort zones and encouraged leadership and teamwork through a range of challenging activities including white water rafting, hiking and abseiling. Recently the school held its annual Athletics Carnival, supported by family and friends after two years of COVID interruptions. Primary students are now set to compete at the Nyah and District Sports carnival in Tooleybuc, while secondary students compete at a division carnival in Ouyen. Meanwhile, the Outdoor Education students have been out in the local community ferreting, bushwalking and hiking in preparation for expedition in Term 4. They also had a visit from Jontee, from Basketball Victoria, who ran a wheelchair basketball clinic. However, it’s not just sports opportunities – students have been treated to various performances and workshops throughout the term including Edward the Emu, Questacon Science Fair and Dinosaurs and Fossils by the Melbourne Museum. Later in the year, there is also a trip to Melbourne to watch a theatre show.
As part of the Careers and Industry program, the school has worked closely with the Murray Mallee Local Learning and Employment Network to provide students and staff with industry visits at a range of local workplaces, resume writing workshops and mock job interview sessions.
Year 10 students are also completing work experience placements at local in Robinvale and Swan Hill.
Students have been involved with homework club, lunchtime activities and an SRC group.
Manangatang P12 College prides itself on community involvement. Parents and community members contribute to the running of our daily breakfast club program, attend assemblies and were recently involved in the Fathers Day breakfast followed by the Book Day parade.
Students in the hands-on learning class have been completing repairs at the community race track and students also assist with the hospital Meals on Wheels program.
