Kinder to get new home

SWAN Hill North Kindergarten will relocate to the grounds of Swan Hill North Primary School next year.

The kinder, which is operated by Shine Bright EYM at Pye Street, will be housed in a purpose-built modular building in the primary school grounds from Term 2.

The move will support the rollout of State Government increases in kinder hours to 30 hours a week for four-year-olds and 15 hours for three-year-olds.

Swan Hill North Primary School principal Brea Terris said having the kindergarten co-located on the school grounds would give children greater access to opportunities for learning and socialising, and help pave the way for a smoother transition from kindergarten to primary school.

Shine Bright EYM chief executive officer Suzi Sordan said it was an exciting project, backed by the Department of Education, Victorian School Building Authority and Swan Hill Rural City Council.

“Providing a state of the art facility such as this goes a long way to support the children of the local community,” she said.

“With 90 per cent of a child’s brain developing before the age of five, early education has a profound effect on the way children develop.”

Once the kinder moves, the council-owned building will be left vacant until a decision is made on its future.
