Engaged students

SWAN Hill North Primary School will open their doors to the wider community on Sunday, March 24 for their annual Open Day.

Principal Brea Terris said the day provided an ideal opportunity for the community to familiarise themselves with the school, its resources and commitment to learning.

“Staff will be on hand to showcase classrooms and discuss the learning we provide at SHNPS,” Ms Terris said.

“We also encourage families to book a time during school for a tour to see how our classrooms look in action.”

Ms Terris said students had settled into the new school year and were looking forward to achieving great things throughout 2024.

“The year started with our students engaging in a ready-to-learn program,” Ms Terris said.

“The students are engaged in their learning and really focusing on our school-wide positive behaviour focus each week.”

Looking towards the future, the school has undertaken a review of the various learning programs it provides.

Ms Terris said the review resulted in some very positive feedback on all aspects of schooling at SHNPS.

“Strong feedback from staff and students from the review was around the relationships we build with staff and the wellbeing framework which helps students engage in their learning,” Ms Terris said, adding more than 90 per cent of students said they felt a sense of inclusion at SHNPS.

“We pride ourselves on this.”

Building upon this feedback, teachers will collaborate in planning to “ensure learning is at a point of need for all students”.

Ms Terris said numeracy and literacy remained a priority at the school, with last year’s NAPLAN assessments revealing Year 3 and Year 5 students performed exceptionally well, particularly in the reading components, when compared to the state average.

Ms Terris said she was looking forward to highlighting and sharing the school’s other achievements and future plans at the open day, urging the wider community to pencil the date into their calendar.
