Indi inking work experience with Swan Hill Chemicals

ST Mary MacKillop College student Indi O’Brien has learnt a lot about the agricultural industry, following a week-long work experience placement with Swan Hill Chemicals.

The Year 10 student said she had a passion for agriculture and the environment, and her placement had provided her with valuable insights into the world of agronomy, solidifying her desire to pursue a career within this field.

During the week-long placement, Indi was able to learn about crop management and sustainable farming practices.

“I had the opportunity to work closely with agronomists who shared their knowledge with me,” she said.

“I was able to observe first-hand the process of analysing crop samples, and developing personalised crop management plans for farmers.”

Grateful for the experience, Indi said she learnt a lot during her time with Swan Hill Chemicals.

“I discovered that agronomists play a crucial role in helping farmers adopt practices that are environmentally friendly, economically viable, and socially responsible,” she said.

“From promoting crop rotation and integrated pest management to advising on the use of organic fertilisers and cover crops, agronomists are at the forefront of ensuring the sustainability of agriculture for future generations.”

Indi said she valued the experience, noting the time further cemented her desire to pursue a career within the industry.

“Overall, my work experience at Swan Hill Chemicals has been a valuable agricultural experience that has deepened my passion for agriculture,” she said.

“This has inspired me to pursue further education and training in agronomy, with the goal of becoming a knowledgeable and skilled agronomist in the future. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field of agronomy.”
