LAKE Boga’s silo art project will go ahead after V/Line reversed an earlier decision to put the art on the western side, limiting tourist access and incurring train spotting costs.
Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh had demanded Transport Minister Ben Carroll immediately intervene on behalf of the Lake Boga community.
“I had raised the matter in the parliament, and I had been interviewed by The Guardian about the problems Lake Boga Inc have had with V/Line’s hurdles in regards to the tourism project,” Mr Walsh said.
“Which is why I am delighted to report the project will not only now go ahead, but with V/Line’s financial support.
“In fact, V/Line has invited the organising committee to ask it to pay the cost of the onsite track force protection co-ordinator.
“That alone has saved the project almost $40,000.”
Lake Boga Inc chair Steve Matthews said the town was celebrating the win after V/Line’s earlier position seemed to block the project.
“Without a doubt, this result could not have been achieved without Peter Walsh’s intervention,” Mr Matthews said.
“Thanks a million – democracy at work.”
Mr Matthews said he would buy Mr Walsh a beer.
The finished artwork in Lake Boga is anticipated to be an important destination as part of Victoria’s Silo Art Trail and displayed along the Murray Valley Highway.
