Excitement in pink

STUDENTS at St Mary MacKillop College, Swan Hill, are ready to bring all the glitz, glamour, and drama from their latest production, Legally Blonde.

Brooke Thomson, who plays the lead character Elle Woods, said the cast were excited for their first of two shows this Friday night after a whole year of preparation.

“We’re very excited because we’ve been rehearsing all year round.

“Every lunch time we practise and we have also been coming to school to rehearse every Sunday as we were getting closer to the show dates.”

Brooke said Elle Woods had been a “really rewarding character to play”.

“You can see how she develops has a character from the start of the show to the end, and how she changes for the better.”

St Mary MacKillop College drama teacher and production director Talia Henderson has been involved in the school’s annual stage productions since she began teaching in 2001.

“It been great fun directing Legally Blonde,” Ms Henderson said.

“The message we want people to take away is being true to yourself never goes out of style.

“Seeing everything come together in the final week has always been the highlight of my year.”

She said more than 60 students were involved this year.

“They’ve all been working hard, but they’re ready to go,” she said.

“They’re not just the cast you see on stage, they’re working backstage with the set and lighting.

“We’ve also got a live band playing all the songs, and the hospitality students will be making the supper that people can buy on the night.”

Cast member Kate Whorwood said she hoped audiences will be able to laugh and a good time on Friday night and on Sunday.

“It’s Legally Blonde. When is the next time you’re ever going to see this iconic story?” she said.

“We hope audiences can come and wear pink, and just have fun.”

Legally Blonde goes on stage today at 7pm at the Jubilee Centre, Splatt Street.

The second show will be held on Sunday at 2pm.

Tickets are available at www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1158515 or at the school’s front office.
