Region flies high

THE Swan Hill region was the place to be this long weekend, with a variety of events on offer ranging from high-octane aerobatics displays to relaxing sunset river cruises.

Friday evening set the tone for the Swan Hill Food and Wine Festival, with 102 guests taking part in the paddle steamer cruise at sunset.

The food and wine festival kicked off on Saturday with crowds enjoying a variety of food offerings, wines, beers, ciders, gelati and more at The Pioneer Settlement.

Entertainment across the day included a host of musicians and culminated in the main event, a concert by Shannon Noll.

Sunday offered more in the way of food and wine, with the produce market held at Riverside Park and the newly formed Dine and Find event that took guests on a tour of some of Swan Hill’s finest dining options.

In a surprise, Swan Hill Inc. announced that Noll would be playing a free community concert at the clocktower at the corner of Campbell Street and McCallum Street, Sunday morning.

More than 300 people were in the gardens on McCallum Street to enjoy the impromptu concert.

Lake Boga’s population swelled from Saturday evening as visitors from across Australia gathered to find the perfect viewing point and camping spot for Sunday’s Splash Down and Rev Up event.

With a host of activities and displays on offer including an exciting aerobatic demonstration, sea planes landing and taking off throughout the day, boat parade, skiing demonstrations and vintage cars on display, it was a full house on the foreshore.

The Flying Boat Museum was also open, and the Lake Boga CFA was on hand running fun activities for the kids.

Lake Boga Football and Netball Club hosted a barbecue, and students from Lake Boga Primary School served up delicious baked potatoes.

Gerry Vytilingham provided musical entertainment, and there was a line dancing demonstration that encouraged the crowd to get involved.

The Guardian was out and about capturing all the action from the weekend’s events and will feature each in Friday’s edition with many more photos to come.
