Recent rainfall set to continue into next three months

THE good recent rainfall across the Mallee is set to continue with cooler-than-average days over the next three months.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast for July to September is predicting a strong chance of up to 100mm of rainfall for the three-month period.

It comes after Swan Hill Aerodrome recorded 33.4mm of rain in June, above the long-term monthly average of 24.5mm.

The average maximum temperature in June was 15.4 degrees, slightly above the long-term average. The coldest morning was minus 0.3C on June 5.

The BoM predicts good local rainfall between July 5-18, courtesy of a band extending from Western Australia through southern parts of the Northern Territory, South Australia and into north-west Victoria.

“Rainfall across north-west Victoria is likely to be higher than average for July to September, sharing a wet outlook with most of Australia’s interior,” climatologist Jonathan Pollock said.

“At the same time, there are slightly increased chances that days will be cooler than average.

The Swan Hill forecast for this weekend is partly cloudy conditions with chilly, two to three-degree starts to the day.
