Golf report week ending July 23rd

Murray Downs Weekly Golf report:

Last Thursday was the only day that a golfing competition was played at Murray Downs over the past week.

These restrictions are a complete joke for regional areas of Australia, where there have been very few cases of COVID.

As of 9:00pm on Tuesday and for the following seven days, all facilities at the Murray Downs Golf and Country Club (including the Club House, Pro shop, Golf Course and Bowling Greens) are closed.

Please stay up to date, by following the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club’s Facebook page, for when these restrictions are lifted/eased.

A very good-sized field took part in last Thursday’s stableford competition, in three grades, where one of our current board members, Grant McNees recorded the day’s best score of 41 points (almost a career highlight), off his handicap of 13 and in doing so claimed the major prize in division 1.

Wayne Wisby (10) was the next best in this division with 37 points.

Division 2 was taken out by Wayne Such (24) with 36 points from Bill Macumber (17) who scored 35 points, whilst in the third division Glenn Violi (32) was the best with 34 points, over another board member in Bill Gurnett with 33 points, which matched his handicap.

Ian Johansen was a bit unlucky to only collect a ball for his score of 37 points, which equaled the second-best score of the day, to lead the ball run-down, which went down to scores of 32 points.

The lucky shots on the par three holes were hit by Graeme Mathiske on the 2nd, Colin Mewburn on the 5th, Dale Smith on the 11th and Wayne Wisby on the 15th with a distance of 1905 cm, which would have only been just on the green.

It only goes to show, that if you are on the green and don’t measure the distance, then you will miss out on the NTP.

Obviously, with these restrictions in place, the final round of the Premier League has been postponed, as has the second round of the Western Riverina pennant competition.

New dates will be arranged as soon as we are permitted to be open to all members.

Lalbert Golf ClubOn Sunday a Stableford event was held. In the Men’s, Charlie Kingwill won with 43 points from Maurice Meehan on 36 points.

In the Ladies, 18 Hole Junior, Danika Meehan won with 31 points. Nine Hole Juniors, Dakotah Meehan took out the scratch with 51 and Caitlin McKissack won the Hcp with 36 Nett, on a countback from Carly and Blake Shepherd. NTP went to first time 9 Hole Junior, Bo Brown.
