EVEN with the warmer weather, strong fields of players have been taking part in all the daily competitions.

Thursday, January 5: A stroke event off the blue tee markers. Division 1 was taken out by Axyl Lewis (13) from Rich River with 71 net, closely followed by Neville Brady (3) on 72 net.

Justin Condely (20) was the best in Division 2 with net 69, with Anthony Carroll (18) the next best on 71 net, while in Division 3, it was Lachlan Carroll (22) with the day’s best score of a net 64, from Ritchie Merritt (36), who recorded his best score for a very long time, of a net 69.

Gary Slater, Tony McDonald, Sam Rovere and Tony Haley led the ball rundown with net 72s, which went down to scores of net 75. The nearest the pins were taken out by Andrew Petersen on the 2nd, Tony Haley on the 5th, Terry McEwan on the 11th and Lachlan Carroll topped off a good day by claiming it on the 15th.

Last Friday a 9-hole medley Stableford competition was taken out by Janelle hogan (25) with 22 points, followed by Mick Kiley (18) with 20 points and Mag Kiley (16) with 19 points. Chris Warburton picked up the NTP on hole 11.

Monthly medal on Saturday was stroke from the black tee markers.

The January medal winner was Chris Willson (25), winning his first-ever monthly medal with a net 67.

Aldo D’Amico (11) from Coomealla GC got the chocolates in Division 1 over Daniel Cruickshank (3) when both players finished with 68 net. Simon Lowrie (20) from Kingston Heath GC was best in Division 2 with a net 67, from Paul Raudino (18) on net 68, and in Division 3, Alistair Ferrier (25) was the best with 69 net from Daniel Lavey (27) on net 71.

Scores of net 72 and better were required to get a ball. Paul Bethune had a very good shot of 88cm into the 2nd, Anthony Carroll was the closest, at 154cm, on the 5th, Daniel Cruickshank hit it to 39cm on the 11th to claim the jackpot, and Mitchell Croft claimed the NTP on the 15th with a shot to within 125cm.

On Sunday, a Stableford competition was played in two divisions, with Tyrone Parkinson (16) taking out Division 1 with the day’s best score of 44 points, followed by Mark Grant (12) with 40 points.

Oscar Gale (29) also had a very good day by taking out Division 2 with 43 points, from the unlucky Malcolm Deverux (38) with 42 points. Other players required at least 37 points to be eligible for a ball. The NTPs went to Greg Walker on the 2nd, Chris Waterson (Kerang) on the 11th and Brad Cockfield on the 15th.

On Tuesday, Chris Grant (16) was the best with 38 Stableford points, followed by Mitchell Croft (14) on 37.

Howard Rosewarne and Graeme Mathiske scored 36 points each to lead the ball rundown, which went down to scores of 33 points. Ross Hastings on the 2nd and Daniel Cruickshank on the 11th took out the NTPs on offer.

All golfers are reminded that entries are being taken, through the Pro Shop, for the 2023 Bailey Ag Australia Day, January 26, two-person Ambrose event (no mixed pairs) and the 2023 Reciprocal Clubs tournament, which will be held the weekend of February 4 and 5. No entry will be accepted for the Reciprocal event unless it is accompanied by the full entry fee.

The second series of the Swan Hill Windows & Kitchens 9-hole summer competition commences on Monday, January 16. It’s an eight-week/teams of four players event. Players can choose to play as many times per week as they like to keep improving their score, with the team’s three best scores being used as the team score each week.

FIFTY-FOUR women braved the hot conditions at MDG&CC on Wednesday.

Thirty-six points was the winning Division 1 score, with Jude Simmonds (22) getting the nod from Sue Davis (23).

In Division 2, Deryn Pinney (34), 35 points won from new golfer Mandy Amezdroz (50), 33 points.

Barb Clark, Mag Kiley, Marg Moore, Lois Heil and Jill Brown all scored 33 points to lead the ball pool.

Nearest the pin winners were Lyn Merrett, Judy McMahon, Barb Clark and Chris Warburton.

Thirty-seven competitors took out cards in Saturday’s event.

The best score was in Division 2, where 28 marker Judy McMahon put together 40 points. Robyn Bett (27) was next best with 36 points.

In Division 1, Dione Heppell (11) scored 38 points to win over club professional Lisa Jean (1), 37 points.

Laurel Dewhurst, 36 points, and Jill McIndoe and Lynne Bishop, both 35 points, were the leading ball pool winners.

Dione Heppell hit the most accurate shots to the 5th and 11th holes, whilst Lynne Bishop and Lisa Jean hit the 2nd and 15th, respectively.
