MURRAY DOWNS MEN

TUESDAY’S Stableford competition was a one-man show.

Andrew “Shrek” Peterson blitzed the field and took out A Grade honours with an ultra-impressive 43 points off his 10 handicap, with Shepparton visitor Peter Junor coming in second position with 36 points.

B Grade winner Ben Smith continued his good form with 37 points, edging out Sam Rovere, also with 37 points.

While the scoring wasn’t as high in C Grade, it was still a close competition, with Shane Kelly sneaking over the line with 34 points from Ian Gammon on 33.

NTPs were Robbie Gray (2nd), Dean Farrell (5th), Francis Mitchell (11th) and Neville Brady (15th).

The strong scoring fired back-up for Thursday’s par competition, with the best score of the day belonging to current junior club champion Noah Starrs.

Noah recorded a score of +7 off his eight handicap, with all the hard work he has been putting into his game starting to pay off.

Runner-up to Noah in A Grade was Grant McNees with +4.

B Grade winner Coady Gorringe returned a score of +4 off his 19 handicap, which was enough to get him over the line by one shot from Noel Hedwards with +3.

The second-best score of the day belonged to C Grade winner Ben Sartori with +6 off his 25 handicap, Ray Holdsworth (square) coming in runner- up.

NTPs were Bob Burns (2nd), Stuart Holt (5th), Kain Domaille (11th) and Laurie Shipsides (15th).

Friday’s nine-hole Stableford competition winner Jason Perry scored 21 points.

Saturday was the club’s first monthly medal round for the 2024 season, and everyone was eager to try and start the year with a bang.

Coady Gorringe was our winner, with 62 net from his 18 handicap. It continued a good run of form for Coady over the past fortnight and his handicap is definitely heading down quickly.

In A Grade club captain James McLean had a fantastic day on the course, recording 66 net from his two handicap, while Luke Rodgers came in runner-up with 69 net, continuing his good form.

Eastern Golf Club visitor David Worrell claimed honors in B Grade with 69 net, from Jason Steven’s 70 net.

Ben Sartori continued his hot form from Thursday, carding a 66 net to win C Grade from Matt Harrop with 68 net on countback.

NTPs were Neville Brady (2nd), Matt Collins (5th), Tyler Aitken (11th) and Jason Perry (15th).

Sunday’s Stableford competition was cut short due to weather, but Barry Ingram was the best of those who completed their rounds with 37 points.

MURRAY DOWNS WOMEN

SIXTY-three women took out cards in the Stableford event at Murray Downs on Wednesday, but scorecards have almost become obsolete with most golfers now using an app on their smartphones to record scores.

Who would have thought?

Conditions on the day were fairly warm, the lush fairways from recent rains contributing to the humidity.

Anne Webb posted the best score of the day, 39 points off her 29 handicap, to win B grade from Lakeside Golf visitor Jean Youl (31) 35 points.

In A Grade, Rosie Ficarra (24) and Janette Tucker (20) were successful with 38 and 37 points respectively. The C Grade winners were Sally Fearn (39) 36 points and Lois Heil (42) 35 points.

Jude Simmonds (36 points) and Paula Pickert and Georgina Douglas (both 35 points) led the ball pool.

Lydia Condely claimed the jackpot on the par-three 11th hole when her tee shot stopped 96cm from the hole. Lyn Merrett and Suzanne McLellan also claimed NTP prizes.

Hot weather reduced Saturday’s field with Norma Everett (25) on 37 points and Margaret Moore (19) and Kristy Gordon (11), both on 33 points the leaders.
