The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS MEN

ON Tuesday a medley par competition was held with around 30 players entering.

The best score of the day belonged to A Grade winner Mark Warren with a great score of +4 from his 12 handicap, while Neville Brady came in second with +4 also on a countback.

A score of -3 or better was good enough to feature in the ball run down, NTPs on the 2nd and 15th both went to Neville Brady.

Thursday last week was a medley Stableford competition, with a strong field of over 70 players making the most of the great weather.

The best score of the day belonged to A Grade winner Ross Hastings

He had a round to remember, recording a fantastic score of 42 points from his 90 handicap, while Rick Harding came in runner-up with 39 points.

Scoring was more modest in B Grade, with 35 points good enough for Ian Read to take out the win on a countback ahead of Roger Walker.

Tony Wilson also had a great round, with his 40 points good enough to hold off Michael Pickert in second place with 39 points.

A score of 34 points or better was good enough to feature in the ball run down, NTPs 2nd Michael Pickert, 5th Ross Hastings, 11th Rodney Bishop, 15th Tony Wilson.

Saturday was the September edition of the monthly medal, with over 100 players making the most of the superb conditions to tackle the course.

The winner of the September monthly medal was Josh Gadsden with a great score of 67 net.

Oliver Rohde took out A Grade with a score of 70 net from his 10 handicap, narrowly holding off Noah Starrs in second with 71 net.

In B Grade, it was Malcolm Seaton-Stewart who came through victorious with 71 net, ahead of Tyrone Parkinson in second with 72 net countback.

C Grade had to be decided on a countback, with Brett Farlie’s 72 net coming out on top ahead of Roger Walker with 72 net also.

A score of 68 net was the second-best of the day and that belonged to D Grade winner Dennis Moore, while Robert west was runners up with 71 net.

NTPs 2nd Glenn Palmer, 5th Adrian Knee, 11th Graig Mathieson, 15th Peter Stanbrook.

Sunday was the first running of the Logan and Hall sponsors day, with the event of the day being a two-person Ambrose with over 110 players partaking in the day.

The winners of the day on a countback were Lyonel O’Shannassy and Scott Munro with a fantastic round of 64 net.

Coming in second place with a score of 64 net also were Gary Blencowe and Greg Kerr, while Luke Hogan and Lance Stobus rounded out the podium with 64.25 net.

NTPs 2nd Scott Zambelli, 5th Zac Caccaviello, 5th David McClelland, 15th Adrian Knee.


MURRAY DOWNS WOMEN

SPRING-like conditions were enjoyed by 61 women for the second round of the Holts’s Auto Service Spring Brooch at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.

Lynne Bishop was the star of the day with a very creditable 41 points from her 12 handicap.

Lynne’s score included 10 pars and one birdie and was equivalent to a stroke score of 79.

Runner-up in Division 1 was newly minted septuagenarian Lyn Merrett (26) 39 points, Judy McMahon (26) 38 points was in third place.

In Division 2, Claris Bourne (30) 37 points won on a count back from Mary Johnson (35) with Tamika Hogan (32) 35 points next best.

Eileen Willox 37 points, Julie McLennan 36 points and Carolyn Zambelli 35 points led the ball rundown.

Kathy Parkinson collected the nearest the pin prizes on the 5th and 11th holes with Eilleen Willox and Lois Carnie successful on the 2nd and 15th.

On Saturday, Carol Wiseman (27) 34 points win from Melita Sartori (37) and Marg Moore (21) both 33 points.

Lynne Bishop and Sarah Clarke were the NTP winners.


NYAH WEST

THE golfing season came to a close with an Ambrose event on Sunday with Team Yappa the winners on 26.375 net, ahead of Team Big John on 27.375 net and Team Moose on 30.625 net.

The club presentations followed, and Thelma Watson won the Alma Lauer Trophy for ladies with the best eight Stableford scores.

Allister Pretty was a standout, winning the Hobson Cup played off between the four best net scores in the club championships and the Vern Watson Trophy based on points from games played this season.

Allister then topped it off by being crowned Golfer of the Year.

The winners of the club’s fundraiser raffle were Gary Beasy, Darren Grace and Shane Channon.

The current Junior Development Program will continue on Sunday morning at 10am and conclude with a wind-up celebration on Thursday at 4.30pm.


VETERANS

A VERY good field of 32 members played at Tooleybuc Sporting Club, including three visitors from Coffs Harbor.

The ladies’ winner was one of those visitors, Lynne Rapley (25), who scored 36 points from Mandy Male (11) on 33 points.

Ball pool went to visitor Wendy Mason (19) with 32 points and Joyce Boyd with 31 points.

The men’s winner was our secretary-treasurer, Ray Henshall (23) with 37 points from Fred O’Bryan (28) with 36 points.

Ball pool went to Rob Male (who had an ace on the 9th hole) and Darrryl Domaille on 34 points, Rick Austerberry and Ian Dodd with 31 points.

NTPs for the ladies went to Mandy Male the 5th/14th, Lynne Rapley 9th/18th, Wendy Mason 1st/10th and 7th/16th.

For the men Ian Dodd 5th/14th, Rob Male (hole-in-one) 9th/18th, Kevin Lane 7th/16th and Ian Gammon on 9th/18th.

Pen awards went to J Foster and G Learmonth both on 19.

Our next event is the Annual Spring Tournament held at Barham Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, October 21 and 22.

MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday, members played Stableford on the back nine.

Barry Bishop returned with the best score, 20 points, from Ian Dickson on 19 points, John Brereton 18 points, Barry Ingram 17 points and Andy Millar 15 points.

On Wednesday, members played the front nine.

Rob Smith came in with the best score, 19 points, from Barry Bishop and Gavin Scown on 17 points, Gordon Parsons on 16 points, and Robert Deighton on 15 points.

The weekly winner with a combined score of 37 points was Barry Bishop.

Runner-up was Ian Dickson on 33 points, followed by John Brereton on 32 points, Barry Ingram and Gavin Scown on 29 points, and Damian Kelly on 27 points.


TOOLEYBUC LADIES

WINNER: Narelle Fraser.

Runner-up: Lois Jordan.

Nearest the pin 1/10: Narelle Fraser.

Nearest the pin 9/18: Ros Jennings.

Next Thursday is the Ladies Tournament 4BBB Pairs, 10.30am start.
