Echuca-Moama team to beat

MURRAY Downs Golf and Country Club have been defeated in the final round of the Western Riverina District Golf Association Summer Pennant.

At Kerang Golf Course, Murray Downs played Rich River in a potential preview of the final.

In a dominant display, the team from Echuca-Moama put the foot down and won 4 1/2 matches to 1/2, showing their pedigree as the team to beat as they finished at the top of the table and pushed Murray Downs into second place.

Next week’s event will be the final of the competition, with Deniliquin Golf Club holding the rematch between Rich River and Murray Downs. Tensions will be high as Murray Downs will be seeking retribution for their heavy loss.

Murray Downs co-captain Lleyton McLean is still optimistic for the final.

“Rich River had to pull out all the stops to beat us today,” he said. “With a potential pair change or two, I believe we’re more than capable of winning the final and bringing home the trophy.”

With the first match tee-off starting at 9:30am, all local golfing eyes will be focused on Deniliquin and which team can push on to take the pennant and deliver it to their club.
