The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS MEN

MURRAY Downs Golf & Country Club has won the WRDGA summer pennant, after defeating Rich River Golf Club with a final score of three and a half to one and a half.

Having lost to Rich River in the last round of the season, Murray Downs drove out to Deniliquin with a point to prove.

Co-captain Steve Bulmer decided a change in the teams was in order, which proved to be a masterstroke.

“We had a look at the match before and knew we had to change something up, we ended up with the match-ups that we wanted and the results speak for themselves,” Bulmer said.

Ash Free and Dave Hogan had the biggest win of the day, only needing 15 holes to dispatch their opponents with a dominant 4 up, with 3 to play.

The pairs of Lucas Free and Nadine Cox, as well as Steve Bulmer and Dale Rogers, both went the distance and claimed wins with one hole up through the 18 holes.

“We went into the day knowing a win was possible and the team really put in the effort and got some tough wins over the line,” co-captain Lleyton McLean said.

“It was great to see, they have all done well all season and deserve to see the pennant come home.”

Next on the calendar will be the WRDGA winter pennant season, which starts on Sunday, May 11 at the Rich River Golf Club.

After this win, Murray Downs will definitely be looking to go the distance and claim their second pennant of the year.
