The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S

THE highlights from the weekend of men’s golf included Jimmy McLean (3) winning the August Monthly Medal with a nett score of -3 after going around with three birdies and three bogies to shoot 72.

On Sunday however, there was more to come.

On the 11th hole, the pin was positioned on the small shelf at the back of the green and Scott Mathiske (5) drew his eight-iron from the back tees and struck the perfect shot.

A talented sportsman by all accounts, some may be surprised to learn that Scott had waited until Sunday for his first ever hole-in-one.

Dale Smith also progressed as the first individual through to the preliminary finals in the single’s knockout competition with a 2-1 win.

Stableford – Thursday, July 31

ROSS Hastings (10) returned to the winner’s circle last Thursday as the only local golfer to score 36 points as he took out the top spot in A Grade.

Mark Warren (13) finished third in A Grade behind a visitor from South Australia.

Glenn Palmer won the putting competition and Malcolm Set-Stewart hit his close on the 11th hole to collect the jackpot prize.

Par – Sunday, August 3

YOU couldn’t have asked for better conditions on Sunday and Noah Sherlock (29) made the most of them to shoot +6 in the par competition.

Noah has been steadily improving his golf game and saw his handicap drop over two points after this showing.

Gene Brooks (10) had a good day in A Grade shooting +3, while Scott Mathiske (5) followed up his hole-in-one with three more birdies on the back nice to claw back his round to come second with +1, while Jason Baird (7) placed third with 0.

Glenn Smith (21), Natt Harrop (21) and Dean Farrell (17) were the winners in B Grade with +2, +1 and +1 respectively.

Behind Noah in C Grade was Mick Kiley (28) on 0 and Juandre Kapp (30) -1.

Par – Tuesday, August 5

THE top performers on Tuesday included Wayne Such (19) +2 as the overall winner with +2, Ian Johansen (12) in second on +2, Tony Ford (20) with another good round with +1 and Geoff Frame (22) with 0.
