The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S

Thursday, August 7 – Stableford

WELL done to Dale Smith for winning the competition last Thursday.

Placing first in A grade as the overall winner on the day, Dale scored 40 points from his handicap of 13 to storm home with three points on the last four holes.

Justin Thompson (13) finished second in the top grade on 38 points, while Ross Hastings (10) was third on 36 points.

The winner of B Grade was Bruce Wilson (18) who also had 40 points, with two birdies and an even 20 points on both sides.

Ian Gammon (22) and Wayne Wisby (15) filled up the podium in B grade with 38 and 36 points respectively.

In C Grade, the Joseph Higgins (31) scored 40 points as well to take out first spot, with Geoffrey Bett (31) the next best with 36 points and Darryl Domaille (26) third, also on 36.

Saturday, August 9 – Stableford

JOSH Gadsden (15) finished with 40 points in C grade to finish first overall in the beautiful conditions, with 90 players turning out to enjoy the day.

There were four grades decided with a strong field of single figure handicappers competing in A grade.

Mark Robertson (8) edged out the other competitors to take first place on 37 points and Jorgen Leschke (8) just pipped Ash Free (5) on a countback, with both players finishing with 36 points.

B grade was also closely contested, with Brad Cockfield (10) winning with 37 points ahead of Mark Warren (13) on 36 and trailed by Mark Grant (12) on 33.

Behind Josh in C grade was Ross Hendy (15) who was very close with 40 points and the perennial Tony Ford (19) who also had another good round, finishing with 37 points.

All the winners in D grade had 37 points, with the places ultimately being decided by the countback system.

For those not familiar with the countback system, ties are decided by how players perform over the last nine holes of the competition.

With Mick Kiley (27), Ian Read (20) and Neil McKenzie (32) all tied on 37 points at the end of play, they were allocated first, second and third in that order by the countback system.

Tuesday, August 12 – Par

THERE was no competition on Sunday due to the Swan Hill Football Club golf day, so Tuesday was the third and final competition for the weekend.

Someone should throw a bucket of water on Tony Ford at the moment because he has been on fire on the golf course recently.

Tony (19) had another great round off the blue tees to finish +3 in the drizzly conditions on Tuesday to beat allcomers and has had four flagged rounds in a row now.

Dale Smith (13) and Jimmy McLean (3) also followed up their recent form with +1.
