Battle of the heavyweights

Murrabit 45 def Macorna 43

What a game it was in Murrabit on Saturday as the two heavyweights Macorna and Murrabit came head to head for the first time this season.

Macorna came out with all guns blazing and had a six goal lead at quarter time.

But Murrabit’s Emelia Shannahan soon put a stop to that.

Her crafty court work and accurate shooting helped the home side get back into the game.

Macorna’s Shamana Bacon showed her maturity as a senior netballer and was working hard in the midcourt.

However, he attack end proved too strong and the Blues stole the win by two.

These two teams are sure to have some real battles this season.

Ultima 39 def Wandella 27

Ultima’s new look team of youngsters are sitting on top of the league’s ladder locking in their second win on the weekend.

Wandella’s coaches Jasmine Morris and Trishelle Martin were rallying to score for the Bombers but the defence work of the Roos is proving to be a talking point.

The game was all tied up at quarter time as Wandella again banked a good first quarter, similar to last week against the Tigers.

However, a 15 goal second quarter to the Roos set the tone for the rest of the game.

Jade Symons and Jacklyn Burge for the Roos were instrumental in their team’s win.

Hay 42 def Moulamein 40

A tight tussle all day in this game where one would be surprised to see Hay get up and win after being down by 11 goals at half time.

The Lions had a massive second half, in the last quarter they shot 17 goals and kept the Swans to just seven.

Hannah Morton was again powerful for the Swans but it was Kelly Walker for Hay who shot 36 of her team’s 42 goals.
