New guide to youth crisis support

HEADSPACE Swan Hill, in partnership with the Murray Mallee Local Learning and Employment Network have launched a new resource to assist young people to access the support they need in times of crisis.

The Youth Crisis Cards and Poster aims to remove the uncertainty of who to seek support and guidance from, with current and up-to-date details of services that can help young people in a crisis.

“We are inviting schools, businesses, sporting clubs, and community members to display the poster in easy access areas,” headspace Swan Hill Manager Kirsty Jacobs said.

“Displaying this poster will mean people can quickly and confidently access free and confidential assistance if they find themselves or a friend in a time of need.”

By scanning the QR code on the crisis cards or poster, people can open and save a digital copy to their phone.

Ms Jacobs said the interactive digital poster aimed to bridge a gap in knowledge about what services are available and how to contact them in times of crisis.

“By clicking on the service name, people are redirected to the service’s website for more information. Alternatively, clicking on the service’s contact number will allow users to directly call the service in times of need,” she said.

“This feature allows users to access immediate support which could be lifesaving.”

Network Executive Officer Deb Quin said: “Information and where to get it is the key to supporting young people and families in times of need. This project is another example of headspace Swan Hill and MMLLEN listening to young people and developing a communication strategy that meets their needs.”
