Maiden Gully YCW netball season preview

IT’S going to be a whole new ballgame for back-to-back premiers MG-YCW in 2024, with its all-conquering A grade gutted by departures.

Premiership coach Adam Boldiston says he has only been able to retain his defensive unit, meaning this season will be the first in a rebuilding program which may take more than just one year.

“It was just one of those things – players left for studies, careers, personal time, family commitments and some seeking new challenges and it all just happened at once,” Boldiston says.

“Fortunately our club has a lot of depth and we have been able to turn to our Bs and Cs and some of those girls have really stepped yup,” he says.

“We have also picked up a couple of new players, but our real future is with the young ones who are now getting experience at the higher level in some practice matches and at training.”

Boldiston says far from being the usual flag favourite, he would be happy if his new-look side finishes midfield – although he won’t complain if they do even better.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Defenders Rachael Gray and Jayne Norton, the last of the premiership team, will be the cornerstone of the 2024 side, providing leadership for the young group. Liv Hall, a 21-year-old coming from the Cs, will also be one to watch at the attacking end of the court as she has really impressed in preseason.
