Hot rods hit the track

SONIC Speedway roars into action at 5pm this Saturday with the feature event being the Jordy Davis-Ewart Memorial for SDAV Hot Rods.

Jordy was a local driver and showed great support to everyone within the Swan Hill Speedway Club.

He started off racing in VSC Juniors and won many club championships, then went on to successfully racing V8 Super Modifieds alongside his brother Jade.

Jade will be representing his local track this weekend with his always immaculate 15 machine.

He will have some tough competition with the likes of Shannon Meakins, Phil Jenkins, Kali Hovey and Andrew Kemp, just to name a few.

Wingless Sprints return this weekend with a solid 20 cars for their Sonic Showdown.

There will be many big names on track battling it out for the feature win over a 25-lap final.

Locals Michael Conlan and Esther Thomson will be sure to put on a great show with the likes of Carly and Blake Walsh, Jack Regan, Brayden Mckay and Geoff Cook.

Wingless always put on some great wheel-to-wheel action and to top it off, there will be a top-six shootout between the highest points scorers.

SSA 1200 Juniors are sure to put on some close racing.

They may be underpowered, but these youngsters nearly match the seniors’ lap times, so they aren’t afraid to use the gas pedal.

Rebecca Johnstone will be the one to watch, running Swan Hill many times last year, but will have tough competition between Libby Ahearn, Archie Thomas and Jack Mills.

Standard Saloons always have great battles, but will anyone beat the always dominant wagon of Trevor Evans?

Local heavy hitters Josh Cambell and Kiel Tripcony will sure give him a run for his money with Troy Higgins, Andrew Marshall, Andrew Edwards and David Futter all giving it their all to fight for a podium finish.

Sports Sedans are hotly contested this weekend with locals Scott Bull, Lachie Bull, Zoey Salau, Emily Hooton, Tyson Gleeson and Josh Beattie sure to put on some close racing.

Lastly the V8 Trucks are sure to be a crowd pleaser this weekend with the likes of Dean Thomas, Wes Bell, Fletcher Mills, Belinda Taylor, Luke James and Jaryd Carmen all showing that there is no clear favourite and it is sure to be a close finish.

The next meeting is June 8-9 to conclude the 2023-24 season.
