High tea treat
Almost 70 people turned up to the High Tea our Gallery Girls were running for our Edward River Gardens Hostel. This is a great cause and our Gallery Girls haven’t finished yet. They are running their Coffee For A Cause in August. They will donate $1 from every coffee sold in their Gallery to our Edward River Gardens. They are open every Thursday and Friday from 10am-4pm for art sales, coffee, local produce and the best home-made cakes in the district. On another note, I think we have a few vacancies at the aged care facility. When the time comes for me to book into somewhere. I could not think of a better place to be .Book in. If your name comes to the top of the list and you are not ready. You just say “No thank you” and you go to the bottom of the list until next time your name gets to the top. If you do not book into somewhere, you could end up in Timbuctoo if there are no vacancies locally. Our local, very talented blacksmith River Sutto has donated one of his shoe horns for a raffle for the month. It is one of those long ones designed for old people so you do not have to bend down and knowing Sutto, it would be a work of art. $2 a ticket and all proceeds go to our Edward River Gardens Hostel.
Footy, netball at Ultima this week
We played our mates from Nully last week at home and we did pretty well. I had one old mate from Nully come up to meet me and gave me a hint that he would like a feed of yeller belly as there were none out in the Mallee. I said “So would I”. Fish are not as easy to get as they used to be. I still owe my bowling mates from Manangatang a feed of yabbies. I couldn’t commit to a second feed until I deliver the first feed. It will happen fellers, hang in there. Our Mighty Magoos had a good game and the result was a draw. Still hanging in the four by their fingertips, I think. They need a win against Ultima this week to help secure their spot. Our seniors came out on fire and took the lead in the first quarter. Two quick goals and we were about even at quarter time. By half time we were only a couple of goals down. Then the Nully machine kicked in and we went down by 70 odd points. This week we go out to the Mallee to play our mates at Ultima. Unfortunately, I will not get to see this match as the Rug Rats are coming for a visit. All those that know me know that the Grand Kids visit overrules most things.
Business security

With foot and mouth disease lurking off our northern borders, this night will discuss the importance, the risks, and the implications of all biosecurity outbreaks. Not just foot and mouth. This night will help you minimise the disruptions to your business and show you the tools available to protect our national livestock industry. This night is open to ALL businesses and members of the community, not just farmers. The cost of this very important night is $20 per participant. It’s at the Swan Hill Club 5/17 McCallum St, Swan Hill on Monday, August 15. You can book in from 6-30pm and the night will kick off at 7pm. Bookings are essential. September Classic bowls tournament
This is always a great weekend in town. Even though it is called our September Clasic. Our bowls tournament is on August 27-28. (It’s a Moulamein thing). Tractors wanted
I ran into a random the other night at our Moulamein Bowling Club. Got talking to him, like I do if someone is in our club. He is looking for a Massey Ferguson 1155, going or not going, or parts of the same tractor. Remember, I do not know this random feller, but he was a very friendly dairy farmer from down south somewhere. His name is Colin Gamble and his phone number is 0427 310 639.
River levels
The Edward at Moulamein is sitting on around 2.75 metres and around 3300 megalitres a day at the time of writing and is dropping. This should mean less water between the fish if you want to get a feed. If you like the taste of cod, you have just under a month to get one. They are talking 50-100ml in the Murray catchment this week and over 100ml in our Murrumbidgee catchment. This could make life interesting on the Riverina flood plains. All of our weirs are at around 90 per cent. Not much room for flood mitigation if these rains turn up. Must be Global Warming. See you on the flood banks.
