Wedderburn 2023 Netball Preview

AS the 2022 North Central A Grade premiers, Wedderburn are looking to go back-to-back in 2023.

A Grade coach Emma Lockhart said the Redbacks were lucky to have a “great group of talented girls” against some tough competition last year, finishing the season undefeated.

However, the Redbacks’ line-up will look a little different this year, losing 2022 club runner-up best and fairest Lara Judd due to pregnancy, plus several others players.

“We were lucky enough to have a very strong B Grade last year that also went through the season undefeated, so we look forward to some of those girls getting the opportunity to step up into A Grade,” Lockhart said.

“We hope to challenge the top sides as much as possible.”

Lockhart will also coach Wedderburn’s B Grade side alongside Georgia Fry, while Fry and Grace Lockhart will co-coach C Grade.

“We’ve had a slow start this pre-season with lots of other commitments, but we are looking forward to building our match fitness with some practice matches the next few weeks in the lead-up to round 1,” Lockhart said.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Lockhart believes league B Grade runner-up best and fairest Courtney Gleeson is set to have a standout year.

“She’s super fit and fast and we look forward to seeing what she can do this season,” Lockhart said.
