Saints unforgiving at Lake Boga

DESPITE a mighty effort from Lake Boga’s A grade netballers at home on Saturday, they were unable to hold off an accurate attack from third placed Tooleybuc Manangatang.

After an exhilarating second win against Koondrook Barham last week, the Magpies fought hard to gain control of the ball from the outset.

Jaclyn Clark and Bethany Ibbs in the goal circle for the Magpies put up a good effort between them, but it was at the other end of the court that much of the action took place.

Strong defensive play from Tooleybuc Manangatang tightened up play for the Magpies’ attack, making it difficult to push the ball through.

Zoe Fuller was on song for the Saints in the goal circle and well supported by goal attack Melanie Wait.

At full time, Tooleybuc Manangatang emerged on top in a 74 to 33 final score.

Heading in to the weekends match, the focus was on each individual player and their role on the court.

Wait said the game against Lake Boga had seen the girls put in a good team effort and make the most of the opportunities afforded to them.

“We have really been concentrating on ensuring everyone is doing their job properly and getting… structure into the way we are playing,” Wait said.

“We had a good day ((on Saturday)), but we have still got room to improve.”

The Saints were bolstered by the consistent accuracy from Fuller, with 43 shots finding their mark.

This effort earned Fuller the best player for the match, while for the Magpies, best on court went to goal keeper Felicity Robertson.

The strong margin will see the Saints bolster their percentage points, but Wait said it would continue to be on their mind with the season now in its second half.

“Our percentage is very good, but it is still something we need to work on and we need to make sure we make the most of every opportunity,” Wait said.

Next week, the Saints will play at home against fourth placed Tyntynder, while Lake Boga will head to Lalbert to face-off against the Mallee Eagles.
