Balranald far too strong

BALRANALD had a convincing 25-point win against Tyntynder at the weekend.

The Roos were in control of the match from the start, finding themselves ahead of the Dogs by eight goals by the first break. Their lead continued to extend from there, with a solid defence line making it hard for the Dogs to get the ball to their ring at all.

Even though they tried to keep up the pace, the Roos experience was no match for a young Dogs line-up, with the final score reading 25 goals in favour of Balranald.

The Dogs had four juniors take to the court – Rose Crowe, Tarni Smith, Issy Corrie and Audrey Domaille – who all slotted seamlessly into the side and tried their best against one of the league’s top teams.

Balranald now sit in third position on the ladder and will play the Mallee Eagles in the qualifying final at Woorinen on Saturday.

Easy win for the Magpies

IT was a comfortable win for Lake Boga against Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

The Pies had a great start, only allowing the Saints to score four goals to their 12 in the first quarter. As the game progressed, the Pies settled into a physical player-on-player approach as their defence, which seemed to work for them.

While the Saints tried their best, they were no match for the strong Pies line-up, going down by 27 goals.

The Pies head into the finals series in fourth position on the ladder. This means they will go head-to-head against Woorinen in Sunday’s elimination final.

“We continue to push forward to next week, where we will push it up a notch and really look to deliver good-quality netball in the elimination final,” Lake Boga playing coach Anna Archie said.

Dominant Eagles fly away

THE Mallee Eagles dominated the court against Koondrook-Barham, beating the Raiders by a huge margin.

While it was always going to be a very tough game against a talented Eagles side, the Raiders did their best to not drop their heads during the very one-sided match, demonstrating their great sportsmanship.

Kellie Walker was a standout for the Eagles, constantly moving and accurately shooting for four quarters.

The win means the Mallee Eagles head into the finals series in second place on the ladder, meaning they will take on third-placed Balranald in Saturday’s qualifying final.

“We needed to go out there and push ourselves and play with lots of intensity with the first final next week,” Eagles coach Vicki McDonald said.

“It was really a game where it allowed our team to put into practice what we have been working on really hard during the year.”

Swan Hill grab top place

SWAN Hill have cemented top position on the ladder after a convincing 44-point win over Kerang on Saturday.

The first quarter of the match was fairly close, with the Blues only four goals behind the Swans. However, the Swans put their foot down in the second quarter, going into half-time 12 goals up.

The Blues struggled to regain any ground for the rest of the match while the Swans continually found their flow and went on to a 44-goal win.

“We felt it was a really solid effort from all players yesterday, which was pleasing,” Swan Hill coach Madeleine Nalder said.

The first position on the ladder means Swan Hill will have a break this weekend before taking on the winner of the qualifying match between Mallee Eagles and Balranald in the second semi-final at Kerang.
