Sisters are netball rivals for a day

SIBLING rivalry will be taken to a whole new level when two sisters play each other in this weekend’s Central Murray netball finals.

Paige and Lani Wilkinson play for the B Reserve teams of Swan Hill and Balranald, respectively, and will both line up in Saturday’s preliminary final between the two teams.

Lani has been playing netball for the past 12 years at Balranald.

Paige has been playing on and off for the past 14 years, first at Balranald, before making the move to Swan Hill two years ago.

With a 10-year age gap between them, Paige never thought she would be up against her little sister in netball at all, let alone in a final.

“We (Swan Hill) were in the finals last year, but Lani was still in juniors, and then I guess we never both expected to get into finals this year but here we are – it was just never something I thought about,” she said.

The losing team of the match gets a second chance in the first semi-final.

“I’m glad neither of us are knocking each other out since it’s not an elimination,” Paige said.

There is a chance the sisters may play each other again, but only if they both make it into the grand final.

One thing is for certain – bragging rights are definitely up for grabs for whoever can claim the win.
