Cohuna end on a high

COHUNA did everything possible to force their way into the top five on Saturday, with a 22-goal win over Lake Boga ultimately ending the Kangas season with a bang.

With Tooleybuc-Manangatang defeating Woorinen, Cohuna’s 49-27 result became null and void in the race for fifth spot, despite their big win helping to close the gap in percentage between themselves and the Saints.

Cohuna coach Georgia Anderson was still “proud” of her team post match despite their season ending on Saturday, with the playing group already looking ahead to next year.

“Our girls just wanted to finish as strong as possible and defensively we were rock solid,” Anderson said.

“I’m so proud of the club and how far we have come in such a short amount of time.

“It’s so much more than just netball, it’s the community and the belongingness and we enjoy being in it together.

“I’m sad we’re not in finals, I believe we should be there.

“We have played the top sides and come so close, if we were in it I feel as though it would be an interesting finals period.”

It was a similar story for Lake Boga coach Lisa Ryan, who despite missing the finals still labelled the season a successful one.

“The season has been a success from my perspective and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the adrenaline of being part of a netball team again,” Ryan said.

“Being the interim coach while the club finds its feet again has been a wonderful experience along with bringing the older players together with the youth of the club.

“It was a tough and physical game to end the season and the score didn’t seem to reflect the game.”

Carla Walker and Carly Geary were the better players for Cohuna, with Montana Davies the best for Lake Boga.

FINAL WHISTLE

Cohuna 49
Lake Boga 27
