MEMBERS of Balranald Fire and Rescue Station are encouraging residents to book a free home safety check to ensure smoke alarms are working.

Captain of the fire brigade Kaitley Linnett said the checks were important in keeping the community safe this summer.

Members can also install a new smoke alarm if they find the current alarm is not working properly or if there is no alarm at the residence.
