Mothers Day celebrated in many ways

THERE have been traditional cultural celebrations of mothers for thousands of years, with Mother's Day a more recent addition with a unique connection to Australia.

It was an Australian who started the tradition of giving gifts on the second Sunday each May.

Janet Heyden from Sydney started a campaign in 1924 to collect gifts for lonely aged mothers and this act of kindness caught on.
