Searing heat signals dangers ahead

THE first day of extreme heat and fire danger arrived on Wednesday, when the Swan Hill rural city sweltered in hot conditions. The Bureau of Meteorology recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5 degrees at 3pm – 0.5 below the forecast.

The cool change then swept through, dropping to 24 degrees by 9.30pm.
