Six days left to unite Swan Hill man with his Afghan family

THE Guardian has collected more than 700 signatures to help reunite Rohullah Hussaini with his wife and baby daughter stranded in Afghanistan, but there is still time to sign.

Multiple members of Mr Hussaini's family were nearly killed late in August during two suicide bombing attacks on Kabul airport, while his sister was shot dead while holding her baby.

Hazara women, part of the minority to which the family belongs, are now being forced to cook for the Taliban.

Mr Hussaini has never met his child, and last saw his wife in 2019 in Iran before the pandemic began. Mr Hussaini believes he will be killed if he returns to his homeland.

The Guardian is aware of at least one other local who has lost a family member since the fall of the country to Taliban forces, and there are also multiple reports of disappearances.

Members of the public are invited to sign at www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN3265 and to share Rohullah's story with others.

The deadline for signatures is November 17.

It is hoped, if successful, this petition can set a precedent for other Afghan families in the Mallee.
