A MAN from northern Victoria has become the first causality of the deadly Japanese Encephalitis virus (JEV).

The man, aged in his 60s, died from the virus on February 28

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time," a Department of Health spokesperson said.

"We strongly advise people take steps to limit their exposure to mosquitoes and avoid mosquito habitats...
